Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use the same tile on the bathroom wall and floor?

Only if the tile is rated for floors. Many floor tiles can go up a wall, but wall only tile cannot come down onto the floor. Check the rating on the product page or ask us.

What is the best tile for a small bathroom?

Lighter colours and a glossy or satin glaze make a small room read bigger, and a larger format means fewer grout lines. A 12x24 laid horizontally stretches a narrow wall.

Is marble too much work for a bathroom wall?

No. A wall sees far less abuse than a floor or a countertop. Seal it once, wipe it after showers and use a pH neutral cleaner and it stays as it was.

How do I finish the top edge of a half tiled wall?

Use a bullnose, a pencil liner or a metal profile. We stock matching trim for most ranges, so the edge reads as part of the design instead of a cut.

Bathroom Wall Tile

Wall rated tile for bathrooms and powder rooms: glazed ceramic and terracotta for colour, porcelain for large clean formats, honed marble where the room needs to feel calm. Sizes run from 6x6 squares to 12x24 and 24x48 panels.

In a bathroom the wall tile takes splashes rather than standing water, so the choice is mostly about light and upkeep. Glossy glazes bounce light around a small room and wipe clean. Matte and honed faces cut glare and hide water spots.

A common approach is one field tile everywhere and a single decorative run at eye level or behind the vanity. It keeps the cost sane and gives the room a focus without turning every wall into a pattern.
