James Martin Double Bathroom Vanities

A double vanity is the piece that decides how a primary bathroom works every morning. Two basins, two sets of drawers, and enough counter between them that neither person is reaching over the other. The widths here start at 60 inches, which is the smallest size where two sinks still leave usable surface, and run to 96 inches for bathrooms with a full wall to give.

How wide is wide enough

• 60 inches: two basins with a narrow shared counter, the practical minimum
• 72 inches: the most popular double, with drawer banks between and either side of the sinks
• 84 inches: room for a drawer tower in the middle and generous counter at each basin
• 94 to 96 inches: a full wall run, often paired with two mirrors and matching sconces

Below 60 inches two sinks stop making sense. If the wall is 48 or 54 inches, a single vanity with a long counter will serve better than two cramped basins, and the money saved usually covers a linen cabinet beside it.

Countertops and sinks

The tops are 3cm quartz with both basins already set, so the counter arrives as one piece rather than two joined slabs. That matters for cleaning, because there is no seam between the sinks to collect water. The surfaces range from marble look veining through plain whites to dark soapstone tones, and the same colours are available as backsplashes cut from the same slab.

Mirrors above a double

Two mirrors, one over each basin, is the arrangement that suits nearly every double vanity: it gives each person their own light and it breaks up a long wall. Size each mirror to the basin rather than the cabinet, usually 24 to 30 inches, and hang them with the same spacing as the sinks. Our mirrors are made in the same finishes as the cabinets.

Plumbing and delivery

Two basins mean two traps and two supply pairs, so if you are converting from a single, budget for the plumbing work as well as the vanity. Doubles are heavy pieces: they ship assembled, on a freight pallet, delivered curbside, and it takes two people to move one into the room. Check that the doorway and any turn in the hallway will take the width before ordering the largest size.
