Buying a mirror separately from the vanity is how bathrooms end up with two slightly different whites on the same wall. These are made by the same factory, on the same finishing line, in the same named colours as the cabinets, which is the only reliable way to get a match. A Bright White Brittany mirror and a Bright White Brittany vanity are the same white.

Wood framed or metal framed

A wood frame ties the mirror to the vanity. A metal frame ties it to the tapware. Both work, but mixing them badly is what makes a bathroom look unplanned: if the faucet is champagne brass and the vanity is walnut, either a walnut mirror or a champagne brass one will look deliberate, while a third finish will not.

Sizing over the vanity

Keep the mirror narrower than the counter, four to six inches in from each edge, and centre it on the basin rather than on the cabinet if the sink is offset.
