Made.In Concrete Look Porcelain

Polished concrete is a beautiful floor and a difficult one. It cracks, it needs grinding and sealing, and in a house it is usually only possible during a rebuild. Made.In takes the look, a flat mineral face with fine mottling and no pattern, and puts it on a 9 mm porcelain tile that goes down on any sound substrate.

The name is a nod to where it is pressed. Landmark builds this in Mount Pleasant, Tennessee, and a domestic body is worth something practical on a large concrete look floor: reorders and shade matched top ups are easier when the kiln is in the same country.

Sizes and pieces

Field tiles at 12x12, 12x24, 24x24 and 24x48, mosaics at 12x12, bullnose at 3x24 and cove base at 6x12, in black, grey, beige and white. Matte and slip resistant surfaces.

Getting the concrete look right

Two details do most of the work. Use the largest tile the room can take, because concrete has no joints and every grout line you remove pushes the floor closer to the real thing. Then match the grout as closely as you can to the tile: a contrasting grout turns a concrete floor into a grid, which is exactly the opposite of the effect.
