Frequently Asked Questions

Does wood look porcelain tile really look like wood?

At normal viewing distance, yes, especially in the longer 8x48 planks with a textured surface. Up close the repeat becomes visible: most ranges use a handful of different plank faces, so mix boxes as you lay to spread the pattern.

Can wood look tile go in a bathroom?

Yes, and that is the main reason to choose it. Porcelain does not absorb water, so it handles bathrooms, laundries and basements where real wood would swell.

What grout joint should I use for plank tile?

With rectified edges, 2 to 3mm. Choose a grout colour close to the plank so the joints do not draw a grid across the floor.

How should wood look planks be staggered?

About a third of the plank length, not half. A half offset creates a repeating H pattern that reads as tile, and it can lip at the centre of long planks.

Wood Look Porcelain Floor Tile

Porcelain planks printed and textured to read as timber, in 8x48 and 6x24 lengths plus chevron and herringbone mosaics for a parquet effect. Finishes are matte, natural and rectified, with tone running from pale oak through grey to dark walnut.

The reason people choose it over real wood is simple: it takes water. A porcelain plank can go in a bathroom, a laundry, a kitchen or a basement without cupping or staining, and it never needs sanding or refinishing.

Rectified edges let you run a tight 2mm joint, which is what makes the floor read as boards rather than tile. Stagger the planks by about a third rather than half, and pick a grout within a shade of the plank so the joints disappear.
