Green zellige, four inch
A glossy green zellige tile at 4x4, handmade in the Moroccan manner so that no two pieces come out identical. Sixty pieces fill a box covering 6.67 square feet.
Design
Colour over an uneven face
Zellige is shaped and glazed by hand, and the glaze pools differently across each piece depending on how it was dipped and fired. Green shows that better than most colours because it holds a wide range of tone between light and dark. What results is a surface that shifts constantly across an area rather than reading as one flat colour. Bodies are 3/8 inch and the style is recorded as classic. Sixty pieces to a box also means a small area can be covered from one box, with enough spare to replace a breakage later from the same firing.

The surface moves across an area instead of reading flat.
Where to use it
Shower floors
Shower floors is the recorded rating, kitchen the noted room. Eleven boxes cover 60 square feet with cutting counted. Handmade pieces vary in size as well as colour, so a setter needs to work with the variation rather than force it into a rigid grid, and grout joints usually end up slightly wider than with machine made tile.

Care
A household tile cleaner and a soft cloth. An uneven glaze holds a little more in its hollows, so rinsing properly matters more than scrubbing harder.
