Terracotta under a mixed glaze
These are glazed terracotta tiles at 6x6, recorded as multicolour, with a 3/4 inch body that is noticeably heavier than a standard wall tile. Pieces sell individually at 0.24 square feet.
Design
Colour over a clay body
Terracotta is a red clay body, and here the glaze sits over it carrying the colour. Because the record lists the colour as multicolour, expect the glaze to move across the face rather than sit as one flat tone. Edges are rounded and the style is classic. A 3/4 inch section gives the piece weight in the hand and depth at the edge where it meets a return. Handmade glazes also vary between production runs, so ordering the full quantity at once matters more here than it does with a printed tile.
Heavy section
3/4 inch is thicker than most wall tile, which shows at an exposed edge.
Moving colour
Multicolour glaze varies across the face rather than reading flat.
Where to use it
Kitchen splashbacks
Backsplash is the recorded usage and kitchen the room. Glazed terracotta tiles wipe down like any glazed surface, which is what a splash zone needs. Counting runs at 0.24 square feet a piece. The clay body is softer than porcelain, so cuts want a slower pass to avoid chipping the glaze at the edge. Laying several pieces out before setting lets the stronger and quieter faces be spread across the area rather than grouped in one corner.
Cut slowly
A softer body chips more easily, so ease off the speed on a cut.
