Cravat in two stones
Cravat is a small marble wall deco at 4 3/4 by 7 15/32, combining Silver Sky and Bianco Dolomite with more than one finish. Twelve pieces make a box covering 1.8 square feet, each piece taking 0.15.
Design
Small pieces, layered treatment
Two stones and two finishes on a piece this size means a lot happens within a small area. Variation is slight, so the two marbles stay related rather than fighting, and the finish differences show as light moves rather than as colour. At 3/8 inch the pieces are easy to handle, and the small format means a panel builds up from many units rather than a few. Small units also give more control over where a panel stops, since the edge can be brought to a line without cutting through the middle of a piece.

Finish changes add a second reading beyond the stone itself.

Floors, walls and wet areas
Commercial and residential interior floors and walls, shower floors, and bath floors and walls are all listed, with bathroom, kitchen and living room recorded. Coverage is 1.8 square feet a box, so 60 square feet would take 39 boxes. Numbers like that place this firmly as a feature rather than a field. Laying a few rows out dry before setting is worth the time, because the way the two stones alternate is easier to judge in place than on paper.

Care
