This square end table combines a polished top of first-grade Carrara White marble, quarried in Turkey, with a slim metal frame in black or chrome. It is made to a 14 by 14 inch footprint, 20 inches high. The white ground and subtle gray veining give each table its own character, and the pairing of marble with metal has become a favourite for modern interiors.

Design

Open frame, stone top

The top is a 3/4 inch thick slab of polished Carrara White, which gives the small table real weight and presence. Marble has a naturally cool feel, and its soft gray veining sits easily with wood, metal and fabric around it. The frame is minimal: thin metal lines with no shelving or storage to interrupt the outline, so the table stays open and light in the room. Black gives a graphic, industrial contrast against the white stone. Chrome adds a bright, reflective line that suits a cooler, more polished palette. Care

Carrara White is a calcite marble with a polished surface. Its stain resistance depends on its porosity, polish and mineral makeup. It is a porous stone, so acidic drinks can etch it and pigments can stain it if left to sit. Suitable sealing reduces that porosity and improves stain resistance, and how often it is resealed depends on use. This is the trade-off of genuine natural stone, and with care a marble side table lasts for many years.
