BIRD BATH FOR GARDEN
A half round bowl on a fluted column that widens as it goes down. No carved motif, no leaves, no color, no aged effect. Gray concrete and two shapes.
The flutes are the only detail and they are structural rather than decorative. They run the full height and open out as the column flares, which is what gives the base its stance.
A piece with no motif on it does not date and does not argue with anything. It sits in a cottage border, on a terrace, beside a modern extension, in a formal lawn. That range is what plain buys you.
Anywhere. That is the point of it. A cottage border, a terrace, a formal lawn, a gravel garden, beside a path. With no motif to place it in a style it takes its cue from whatever is around it. Twenty four inches is a safe height, with open ground on the approach and cover within a short flight.

| Finish | Gray, sealed |
| Height | 24 in. |
| Water depth | 2 in. recommended |

| Use | Outdoor year round |
Two pieces, no tools. The bowl sits onto the column under its own weight.
Set it on level solid ground. The flared base gives a wide stance once it is level.
Two inches is the number. Birds wade rather than swim, so shallow water is what gets them in.
Vertical flutes shed water and dirt well, which makes this an easy finish to look after. A soft brush every few weeks is enough.
Drain the bowl before the first hard frost and leave it empty or turned over. Sealed concrete comes through freeze and thaw well when dry.

None. Flutes on the column and a plain round bowl. The flutes are structural rather than ornamental, which is why the piece reads as designed rather than as undecorated.
That one has a straight column with dentil bands under the bowl and around the foot. This one flares as it drops, the flutes open with it, and there is no banding at all.
Any of them, which is the reason to choose it. Nothing on it commits to a period or a theme, so it takes its cue from the garden around it.
The bowl has a wide even rim to land on and real wall thickness under it. Fill to two inches, keep the approach open, and have cover within a short flight.
