PEDESTAL BIRD BATH
A full size concrete bird bath wants about three feet of clearance on every side to look right. A narrow garden or a balcony does not have three feet.
This one drops the basin to 16 inches and keeps the column at 24. It stands as tall as a full size bath and takes a smaller circle of ground.
The column is properly fluted, with the channels running the full length and opening out as the base flares. A band of dentils sits under the bowl and another around the foot. Get the classical proportions right and a compact piece reads as small rather than shrunken.
A balcony, a side return, the end of a narrow border, a patio corner, anywhere a full size bath would crowd its neighbors. Twenty four inches puts the basin at a safe height. Even in a tight spot, leave what open ground you can on the approach side and keep a shrub or a low branch within a short flight for cover.

Two pieces, no tools. The basin sits onto the column under its own weight.
Set it on level solid ground. A narrow footprint makes level more important than it is on a wide base.
Two inches is the number. Birds wade rather than swim. A smaller basin holds less, so expect to top it up more often in summer than a 20 inch bowl.
Vertical channels shed water and dirt well, which makes this one of the easier finishes to look after. A soft brush every few weeks keeps the dentil band under the bowl clear.
Drain the basin before the first hard frost and leave it empty or turned over. Sealed concrete comes through freeze and thaw well when dry.

Far less than a 20 inch bath. The narrow footprint works on a balcony, in a side return, or at the end of a border where a full size piece would crowd whatever is beside it.
Yes. The rim is what matters most and this one is wide enough to land on and assess from. A smaller basin simply needs topping up more often.
Thirty two pounds is heavy for a compact piece and it holds position on a level solid surface. In a very exposed spot, set it against a wall rather than free standing.
Dentils, a classical band borrowed from Greek and Roman architecture. They repeat around the foot as well, which ties the two ends of the column together.
