BEAR WATER FOUNTAIN
A tree stump with a beehive hanging from a branch near the top. A black bear is stretched out along the upper limb reaching toward it. Below, a cub stands upright against the trunk, working its way up. Water steps down through three levels between them.
Two animals doing two different things is what separates this from a fountain with a bear on it. A single figure is something you identify once and stop seeing. Two figures at different heights, both aimed at the same beehive, sets up a situation, and your eye moves between them working out what is happening. That movement is what makes people look twice.
At 22.4 inches on an 11.4 by 9.8 inch base this is one of the smallest floor pieces here. That suits the subject. A scene about small animals works at a scale you come across in a border, not at a scale that faces you down across a lawn.
Light and continuous. Three short falls at this scale produce a soft trickle with no volume behind it, which is right for a piece you come across at close range rather than one meant to be heard across a garden. It will not mask traffic. How loud it seems will still shift with the water level and the surfaces around it, which is why a fixed decibel number would tell you nothing useful about your own garden.

Fill it, plug it in, done. No plumbing and nothing to bury. One hand moves it at 12.54 pounds.
Face the bears toward where people pass. The relationship between the two figures and the hive is the whole piece, and from behind you see a plain stump.
At 12.54 pounds this is very light. Set it against planting, a wall, or a step rather than free standing in an open windy corner, and keep it off the route where a dog turns at speed.
Keep enough water in the base to cover the pump so it never runs dry. A small reservoir on a compact piece drops quickly, so check every few days in warm weather rather than weekly.
Clear leaves from the tiers. On short falls a blockage on one ledge diverts a whole level.
The bears, the hive and the bark are painted resin. Years of unbroken sun will lift some depth out of the color, most visibly on the figures. Afternoon shade keeps it looking new longer. Clean with a soft cloth and keep harsh liquid cleaners off the paint.
Before hard freezes, drain the base and every tier completely, disconnect and store the pump indoors, and dry the piece out. At 12.54 pounds bringing it inside takes one trip.

Two. An adult stretched along the upper branch reaching for the beehive, and a cub standing upright against the trunk below. The hive hangs between them, which is what connects the two figures.
Subject and size. The woodland bear cub piece has two cubs on a trunk with no hive and stands 39 inches. This one is 22.4 inches with a reaching adult, a climbing cub, and a beehive between them. Choose this for the smaller footprint and the honey scene.
A planted border, a doorstep, a small patio corner, beside a bench, under a pergola. The 11.4 by 9.8 inch base is barely larger than a plant pot. It needs green around it to read as woodland, and it does not suit a formal or minimal setting.
Children are drawn to animal fountains and this one is at their eye level. Do not let them pull on the bears or the hive, set it on a hard level surface out of the running route, and run the cord where it will not catch a foot. The recirculating water is not intended for drinking.
