URN WATER FOUNTAIN
A tapered stone urn with a large section of the outer shell cut away on a diagonal. Behind the cut, the inner body is finely ribbed, turned in close horizontal bands. The outside is rough and pitted. The inside is precise and machined. Water rises at the center of the flat top and spreads out until it slips over the entire rim.
The contrast between the two surfaces is the whole design. A rough stone urn is a common object. A ribbed cylinder is a common object. Cutting one open to reveal the other inside sets up a relationship neither shape has on its own, and that is what makes it worth a second look rather than a passing glance.
At 19.7 inches wide and 17.9 inches tall, it is wider than it is high. That is unusual and it is the reason this reads as a piece of ground rather than as an object standing on ground. It sits low in a bed, in a lawn, or on a terrace and does not interrupt a sightline.
Almost silent. The center bubbler is gentle and the water leaves over the entire rim at once rather than falling from a point, so there is no impact anywhere and no single stream to hear. What you get is a soft continuous seep. This is among the quietest pieces here, which suits it to a seating area, a bedroom window, or an indoor room. It will not mask traffic and is not meant to. How loud it seems will still shift with the water level and the surface underneath, which is why a fixed decibel number would tell you nothing useful about your own space.

Fill it, plug it in, done. No plumbing and nothing to bury. One person can carry it at 18.7 pounds.
Level it carefully. On a full rim overflow an out of plumb base sends all the water off one side instead of evenly around the edge, and on a still surface that is immediately obvious.
The cut away section is the whole point, so turn it toward where people sit or walk. From the intact side the piece reads as a plain stone urn and you lose the contrast you paid for.
Keep enough water in the reservoir to cover the pump at all times. A wide flat top exposes a lot of surface to the air, so evaporation runs faster than the size suggests. Check every few days in warm weather.
Keep the top surface clear. On a still plane a single leaf is far more visible than it would be on a textured cascade, and it also disrupts the even overflow.
The rough outer shell hides marks well. The fine ribbed interior does not, and in hard water areas mineral film settles into those close bands where it is hardest to remove. Wipe the ribbed section regularly rather than waiting for build up, and keep abrasives away from both surfaces.
Before hard freezes, drain the reservoir completely, disconnect and store the pump indoors, and let the piece dry out. The open top collects rain and snow through winter, so cover it once drained. At 18.7 pounds bringing it inside is easy, which is straightforward given it is rated for indoor use anyway.

No. Water rises at the center of the flat top and spreads across it before going over the whole rim. The cut away section shows you the ribbed core underneath but is not where the water leaves. It is a still top surface rather than a broken vessel leaking.
Modern and minimal gardens, a lawn where you want a low object rather than a tall one, a terrace, a gravel bed, a courtyard. It also works indoors on a floor. Because it stays below eye level it suits places where you do not want to block a view.
Completely different. The turquoise cracked jar is 38.7 inches tall and narrow, with water seeping out of a fissure in the side. This one is 17.9 inches and wider than it is tall, with a still top surface overflowing the rim and a cut away shell revealing the core. One is a vertical object with a flaw, this is a low form with two surfaces.
The low broad shape is stable and there is nothing to pull on, which makes it one of the safer pieces here. The open top is within reach, so animals will drink from it. Set it on a level solid surface and run the cord where it will not catch a foot. The recirculating water is not intended for drinking.
