TIERED OUTDOOR WATER FOUNTAIN
Four bowls set at alternating sides of a tall column, with water crossing from one to the next as it descends. The column itself is split diagonally into charcoal and pale gray, so the two tones meet on an angle that runs behind the bowls. Warm light sits inside each one.
That diagonal is the detail worth noticing. A plain gray column with bowls on it is a common object. Splitting the column into two tones along a slanted line gives the piece an internal composition, so the eye has something to follow even where the water is not. It also means the bowls read against different backgrounds depending on where they sit.
Alternating sides rather than a straight stack means water crosses the face as it falls, which produces more visible movement and a less repetitive sound than four drops in a single line.
A stepped cascade with side to side movement. Because the bowls alternate, the falls land at different points rather than in one line, so the sound has more variation than a straight stack produces. It is a close range sound suited to a porch, a doorway, or a seating corner. How loud it seems will still shift with the water level and the surfaces around it, which is why a fixed decibel number would tell you nothing useful about your own space.

Set it level. With bowls on alternating sides an out of plumb column sends water past the bowl below rather than into it, which puts water outside the fountain.
The diagonal split runs across one face. Turn that face toward where people sit or pass, since from the side the two tone effect is much less visible.
Keep enough water in the base to cover the pump so it never runs dry. Four open bowls lose water faster than a closed reservoir, so check every few days in warm weather.
Clear leaves off the bowl rims. Anything on a lip sends the fall to one side, and on an alternating design that can put water outside the piece.
In hard water areas a pale film builds on the wet bowl rims. On the charcoal sections it shows immediately, on the pale gray much less. Clean the rims before it sets rather than after. Keep harsh liquid cleaners off the painted finish.
Before hard freezes, drain the base and every bowl completely, disconnect and store the pump indoors, and dry the piece out. Water standing in a bowl through a freeze and thaw is what damages stacked designs.

From the front, yes. The diagonal runs across one face and the two grays are clearly different. From the side it reads as a single dark column, so the orientation matters more on this piece than on a plain one.
A porch, a patio corner, a doorway, beside a bench. The gray tones sit with paving, timber decking, and terracotta pots. It is neutral enough for a modern setting and textured enough not to look out of place in a traditional one.
The column. Most have bowls on a plain support. This one splits the support diagonally into two grays, so the part between the bowls has its own geometry rather than being blank.
Set it on a hard level surface out of the main running route, and do not let children pull on the upper bowls. Run the cord along a wall or bed edge so it will not catch a foot. The recirculating water is not intended for drinking.
