Flooring Trends 2027: 7 Looks in Wood, Vinyl and Tile

Updated November 3, 2026. Sources are named and dated in each section.

Flooring trends 2027 point toward lighter, warmer and calmer floors: white oak tones, longer planks, wood looks in porcelain and vinyl, matte stone looks and bigger tiles, plus one pattern that marks a zone. Each trend below names who reported it and when, says when a number comes from our own catalog, and says when the idea is our own view. Every look is shown with an engineered hardwood, luxury vinyl or porcelain floor from our catalog.

In short: pick white oak or a long plank if you want real wood, wood-look porcelain or vinyl if you want the same color with a different material, and a large matte tile for a quiet stone floor. Our engineered hardwood and luxury vinyl plank ranges carry the wood looks on this page, and the wider tile trends for 2027 cover walls and color.

1. White oak and light oak tones in engineered hardwood

White oak leads the 2027 wood palette in kitchens: NKBA's 2027 Kitchen Trends Report, as reported by PHCPPros on Oct. 15, 2026, names white oak the preferred wood in kitchens for 49% of the designers surveyed. A light oak floor puts the same wood family underfoot, so cabinets, trim and flooring can match.

In 2025, Zillow's home features report (March 25, 2025) linked white oak floors in listings to a sale price 3.2% higher than expected. That figure is from Zillow's 2025 report, a different source than the NKBA survey, so read the two separately.

Ladson Kentsea Oak is an engineered hardwood plank, 7.5 inches wide and 75 inches long, with a matte surface and a light oak color with a warm honey cast in the photo. Our guide to white oak engineered hardwood compares the oak shades side by side, and the engineered hardwood flooring guide explains how the planks are built.

2. Longer, wider planks with fewer end joints

McCarran Hinton Matte Engineered Hardwood Planks 9.5x86

Engineered hardwood · Matte · 9.5 x 86 in

Of the 320 luxury vinyl planks Stone Tile Depot lists (as of October 2026), 209 are 48 inches long, while the 37 engineered hardwood planks in our extra long range run 75 and 86 inches. Long, wide planks are our pick for 2027: a floor with fewer end joints looks calmer, and a long board makes a room feel longer. At 86 inches, a single plank is just over seven feet, so a hallway or a narrow living room can show only a few joints from end to end.

McCarran Hinton is 9.5 inches wide and 86 inches long, with a matte finish and a washed, light brown tone in the dining room photo. Wide boards like this suit open plans where one floor runs through several rooms. Our post on wide plank hardwood flooring goes deeper on widths and lengths.

3. Wood-look porcelain planks

Wood-look porcelain gives the color and grain of a light oak floor in a fired tile, and it makes up a much bigger share of what we have added recently. Of the 800 tile products Stone Tile Depot added most recently (as of October 2026), 19.9% have "wood look" in the name, against 5.1% of the 4,034 added before them. Those numbers reflect supplier catalogs.

Placero is a matte porcelain plank, 10 inches by 60 inches, in a light natural oak color. The long format keeps the floor close to the proportions of a real board. For more ideas, see our floor tile trends post.

4. Neutral luxury vinyl planks

Neutral colors top the kitchen color question in NKBA's 2027 Kitchen Trends Report (PHCPPros, Oct. 15, 2026): asked about kitchen colors, 96% of designers expect neutrals to be popular, ahead of greens at 83% and blues at 75%. The survey covers kitchens, not floors. A soft beige or sandy oak luxury vinyl plank brings that neutral base to the floor, and one plank can run from the kitchen through the living areas without a change in color.

XL Prescott Austell Grove is a matte luxury vinyl plank, 9 inches by 60 inches, in a pale, sandy oak look. It belongs to our click-lock vinyl range. Our guide to the best luxury vinyl plank flooring compares wear layers and plank sizes, and LVP vs engineered hardwood sets the two materials side by side.

5. Warm stone looks in matte porcelain

Cordova Avorio Matte Travertine Look Porcelain Tiles 24x48

Warm stone looks are a 2027 tile trend: one show report on Cersaie 2026, from Gomila Cerámica on Oct. 1, 2026, highlights warm stones such as travertine and limestone, and Floor Covering News described warm, earthy hues across the Bologna show on Oct. 13, 2026. Our catalog shows a related change: of the 800 tile products we added most recently (as of October 2026), 32.2% are beige and 49.5% are matte, against 12.8% and 27.2% of the 4,034 added before them.

Cordova Avorio is a matte, travertine-look porcelain tile in 24 by 48 inches, with soft ivory and sand bands running along its length. A large travertine look like this gives the warmth of stone with the regular size of a porcelain tile. If you want the real stone, our natural stone trends for 2027 cover travertine, limestone and marble.

6. Larger-format slabs and tiles

Forty8 Luxe White Honed Marble Look Porcelain Tiles 24x48

Porcelain · Honed · 24 x 48

Larger-format slabs were one of the Cersaie 2026 themes, according to Floor Covering News (Oct. 13, 2026); the Bologna tile show, held Sept. 21 to 25, drew 92,352 visitors and 595 exhibitors. The show also pulled the other way: Gomila Cerámica's Oct. 1, 2026 report on it notes that small formats are returning. For a floor, our example of the large direction is a 24 by 48 inch porcelain tile.

A 24 by 48 inch tile covers 8 square feet per piece, so a 12 by 15 foot room takes about 23 full tiles before cuts, against 180 tiles at 12 by 12 inches.

Forty8 Luxe White is a honed, white marble-look porcelain tile in 24 by 48 inches, shown in a bright living room. A honed face gives a soft, low-sheen white. Our post on large format tile compares the sizes and looks in more detail.

7. Checkerboard floors that mark a zone

Casa Duet Calacatta Crema Checkered Matte Porcelain Tiles 24x24
Casa Duet Calacatta Crema Checkered Matte Porcelain Tiles 24x24
Porcelain · Matte · 24 x 24

We expect checkerboard floors to show up in 2027 as a way to mark a zone, such as a mudroom, an entry or a back hall, within an open plan. In NKBA's 2027 Kitchen Trends Report (PHCPPros, Oct. 15, 2026), a kitchen survey, 81% of designers rate intentional zoning as here to stay and 94% expect attached mudrooms to be popular. A patterned floor in that one area sets it apart from the plank floor next to it.

Casa Duet Calacatta Crema is a matte porcelain tile, 24 by 24 inches, shown laid as a soft cream and beige checkerboard with gentle marble veining. Cream on beige keeps the pattern quiet; for the high-contrast version, see our black and white tile design ideas.

Frequently asked questions

What are the hardwood flooring trends for 2027?

The clearest 2027 signal for wood comes from kitchens: NKBA's 2027 Kitchen Trends Report, as reported by PHCPPros on Oct. 15, 2026, names white oak the preferred wood in kitchens for 49% of designers surveyed. Longer, wider planks (trend 2) are our own view. You can get a light oak color as engineered hardwood, such as Ladson Kentsea Oak, as wood-look porcelain like Placero, or as a pale luxury vinyl plank like XL Prescott Austell Grove.

What is the difference between luxury vinyl plank, rigid core and engineered hardwood?

Luxury vinyl plank is a vinyl floor with a printed wood image under a clear wear layer. Rigid core vinyl adds a stiff core layer, which makes the plank firmer. Engineered hardwood has a real wood top layer bonded over a layered core, so the surface you walk on is wood. All three come in light oak looks for 2027.

How long is a long plank?

The 37 extra long engineered hardwood planks we list (as of October 2026) come in two lengths: 20 at 86 inches and 17 at 75 inches. For comparison, 209 of the 320 luxury vinyl planks we list are 48 inches long. McCarran planks are 9.5 by 86 inches and Ladson planks are 7.5 by 75 inches. Our Shorecliffs rigid core vinyl planks come in 9 by 87 inches if you want a long plank in vinyl.

Are large floor tiles a good fit for a small room?

They can be. A 24 by 48 inch tile means fewer joints, which keeps a small floor from looking busy, and a 12 by 15 foot room takes about 23 full tiles at that size. Light, matte or honed faces like Forty8 Luxe White or Cordova Avorio keep the floor soft and even. Ask for a sample to see the size in your own room before you order.

Will this list change before 2027?

We plan to update it in February 2027, and again after Coverings 2027, which runs April 6 to 9 in Orlando. Pantone had not announced its 2027 color when we published; we will add it when it does. Each update will add what matches the floors we carry and change the date at the top of the page.
