Natural Stone Trends 2027: 7 Marble, Travertine and Limestone Trends

Natural stone trends for 2027 point to warmer, softer and more textured stone: travertine and limestone next to cool white marble, honed and tumbled faces next to high polish, and small formats and carved relief on the wall. The seven trends below come from the 2026 trade show season, from published industry trend lists and from what Stone Tile Depot has added to its own stone range, and each one comes with a real tile from our catalog.

1. Warm travertine on floors and walls

Warm travertine, in honey, cream and soft walnut tones, is one of the warm stones a Cersaie 2026 show report picked out for 2027: Gomila Cerámica's Oct. 1, 2026 report named travertine and limestone among them. Our own range moved the same way. Of the 800 tile products Stone Tile Depot added most recently (as of October 2026), 11.6% are travertine, against 1.9% of the 4,034 added before them.

The Tuscany Beige Honed Travertine Tiles come as a 12 by 12 inch square with a honed face, so the stone is smooth and matte, in a warm beige with soft cloudy movement. 2. Tumbled travertine with soft, worn edges

Tumbled stone, with rounded edges and a softly worn face, has a surface you notice by touch as much as by eye. Coverings' Top 10 Tile Trends of 2026 (February 2026) included "Haptic Experience." The Gomila Cerámica show report also named relief and handmade texture as a theme. Of the 800 tile products Stone Tile Depot added most recently (as of October 2026), 10.5% have a tumbled finish, against 2.5% of the 4,034 added before them.

Silver Travertine Tumbled Pattern Tiles bring cool gray and white banding, while Tuscany Scabas Tumbled Pattern Travertine Tiles run warmer, with gold, rust and cream in the same piece. Both come as pattern sets of mixed sizes that form a repeating stone pattern, and both are listed for interior floors and walls.

3. Honed limestone in quiet, even whites

Honed limestone, with a flat matte face and very little veining, is the second warm stone the Gomila Cerámica show report named, next to travertine. Coverings' Top 10 Tile Trends of 2026 (February 2026) included "Organic Minimalism." A honed finish keeps the surface low in shine, so the stone shows an even, chalky tone.

The Paris Honed Limestone Tiles come as an 18 by 18 inch square, white and evenly toned, and are listed for interior floors and walls, including shower walls. 4. Fluted marble and 3D limestone relief

Fluted marble and carved 3D stone give a wall depth through relief, so light and shadow change the surface through the day. Floor Covering News, reporting on Cersaie 2026 on Oct. 13, 2026, described deep texture and grooves across the show, and the Gomila Cerámica report also named relief as a theme. Relief stone looks its best where light grazes it: a backsplash under cabinet lights, a vanity wall or a niche.

The Arabescato Venato Valentino Fluto is a honed white marble with gray veins, cut into vertical ribs on a 12 by 24 inch piece and listed for backsplashes and interior walls. The Arctic White 3D Honed Marble Ledger Panel takes a different route: 6 by 12 inch panels of stacked white marble strips at different depths, listed for interior walls and shown here on a full fireplace wall. 5. Small marble mosaics: hexagons and penny rounds

Small-format marble mosaics, such as hexagons and penny rounds on mesh sheets, fit another theme from the Gomila Cerámica show report: the return of small formats. A small chip of marble gives a floor or wall more pattern per square foot, and white marble keeps that pattern light.

The Snow White Honed Hexagon Thassos Marble Mosaic is a bright white marble in a honed finish on 12 by 12 inch sheets, five sheets to a 4.83 sq ft case; the photo shows it in a dining room. 6. Green marble for the 2027 green palette

Green marble ties in with the 2027 colors of the year, three of which are greens. Sherwin-Williams chose Celery SW 6421, "an airy, herbal green" (Sept. 15, 2026); Behr chose Grounded T27-01, "a mossy olive with earthy brown undertones" (Aug. 26, 2026); and Benjamin Moore chose Webster Green HC-130 (Oct. 14, 2026). Other brands went to blue, orange and brown. NKBA's 2027 Kitchen Trends Report, as reported by PHCPPros on Oct. 15, 2026, found 83% of designers expect greens to be popular kitchen colors, down from 86% a year earlier and behind neutrals at 96%.

7. Warm beige and taupe marble on the backsplash

Warm beige and taupe marble fits the earthy palette Floor Covering News reported from Cersaie 2026 on Oct. 13, 2026, where warm earthy hues and soft pinkish tones stood out. Beige marble with soft banding brings the warmth of travertine to a wall in the finer grain of marble. White oak is one pairing to consider: NKBA's 2027 report, as reported by PHCPPros, found 49% of designers name it the preferred kitchen wood.

Yes. Travertine is one of the warm stones named in Gomila Cerámica's Oct. 1, 2026 report on Cersaie 2026, and travertine's share of what we added to our own range rose sharply (see trend 1). Honed filled and tumbled travertine both fit the softer, warmer look on the 2027 lists.

What is the difference between travertine and limestone?

Both are calcium-based sedimentary stones, but they form differently. Travertine forms around mineral springs and has natural holes through the stone, which are either filled at the factory or left open. Limestone forms from layered sediment and has a finer, more even face, with fewer holes and softer movement. Travertine tends toward honey, walnut and silver tones; limestone toward white, cream and blue-gray. Our travertine or limestone guide compares them in more detail.

What does honed filled mean on a travertine tile?

Honed means the face of the stone has been ground flat to a smooth, matte surface with little shine. Filled means the natural holes in the travertine were filled before the tile left the factory, so the face is closed and even. A honed filled tile looks calm and smooth; a tumbled tile has rounded edges and a worn face; an unfilled tile shows the open holes of the stone.

Which stone tiles go with the 2027 colors of the year?

The three greens pair with different stones. Sherwin-Williams Celery, an airy herbal green, works with white marble mosaics and sage-veined marble such as Coronado. Behr Grounded, a mossy olive with brown undertones, works with warm travertine and limestone, which share those earthy tones. Benjamin Moore Webster Green works with either group.
