Countertop Trends 2027: 8 Stone Slab Trends

Countertop trends 2027, as the designer surveys and trade shows describe them, point toward natural stone with warmth and texture: quartzite at the top of NKBA's countertop list, warm earthy tones at Cersaie 2026, three of the 2027 paint colors of the year in green, and texture on the Coverings trend list. In short: quartzite leads, a second stone can mark the island zone, warm travertine and limestone match the show palettes, green stone matches the green paint colors, honed and leathered finishes answer the texture trend, slabs go on the backsplash wall, sintered stone and porcelain join the slab lineup, and soapstone and honed black granite give a dark option next to wood cabinets. 1. Quartzite moves to the top of the countertop list

Quartzite is the countertop material designers expect to lead in 2027: in NKBA's 2027 Kitchen Trends Report, as reported by PHCPPros on October 15, 2026, 78% of designers expect quartzite to be popular, just ahead of quartz at 74%. Quartzite is a natural stone cut from the quarry in slabs, while quartz is an engineered surface, so the two names point to different products.

Calacatta Brasil Value is a honed quartzite slab with soft gray veining on a white ground, shown above as a waterfall island against wood cabinets. Zillow's 2026 home features research, published March 24, 2026, found listings that mention quartzite countertops sold for 5.3% more than expected, against 3% for quartz. 2. Zoned kitchens with a second stone on the island

Kitchens in 2027 are planned as zones, and our take is that a different slab on the island is a clear way to mark one. NKBA's 2027 report found that 81% of designers see intentional zoning as here to stay and 90% expect dedicated beverage areas. A veined white marble on the island, set against a quieter stone on the perimeter counters, gives the prep or gathering zone its own surface without a wall.

Verde Statuary is a polished white marble with gray and soft green veins, shown on a kitchen island in a bright room. 3. Warm travertine and limestone from the Cersaie palette

Warm, earthy tones ran through Cersaie 2026, the tile and surface show held in Bologna from September 21 to 25, 2026: Floor Covering News reported warm, earthy hues, deep texture and larger slabs there on October 13, 2026. A show report from Gomila Cerámica (October 1, 2026) named travertine and limestone among the warm stones. Both stones come in soft sand colors.

4. Green marble for the green 2027 paint colors

Three of the big 2027 paint colors of the year are greens, which gives green stone a ready match. Sherwin-Williams chose Celery SW 6421, "an airy, herbal green" (September 15, 2026), Benjamin Moore picked Webster Green HC-130 (October 14, 2026), and Behr named Grounded T27-01, "a mossy olive with earthy brown undertones" (August 26, 2026). In NKBA's 2027 report, 83% of designers expect greens in kitchen palettes, behind neutrals at 96%.

Matcha Green is a polished marble with pale sage and darker green bands, shown above on a counter with a brass faucet. 5. Texture from the tile shows, in leathered and honed slabs

Texture you can feel is on the 2026 tile trend lists: Coverings put "Haptic Experience" and "Organic Minimalism" on its top ten tile trends in February 2026, and Floor Covering News reported deep texture and grooves across Cersaie 2026. Those reports cover tile; our take is that leathered and honed slabs bring the same idea to a countertop. A leathered finish gives the stone surface a soft, slightly uneven feel.

Taj Mahal Supreme Leather is a beige quartzite with a leathered finish; the close-up above shows the gentle ripple across its creamy veining. 6. The stone slab moves onto the backsplash wall

Slab backsplashes are gaining share among homeowners who renovate. In the Houzz 2026 U.S. Kitchen Trends Study, published January 29, 2026, 28% of renovating homeowners chose a slab backsplash, up from 24% the year before, while 72% chose tile. A slab backsplash puts one piece of veined stone on the wall behind the counter in place of a field of tiles.

7. Sintered stone and porcelain slabs for counters

Ceramic surfaces used as countertops were part of Cersaie 2026: Floor Covering News reported ceramic for countertops, cooktops, vanities and tabletops at the show, along with larger slab formats. Stone Tile Depot's manufactured slabs in that vein are sintered stone and porcelain slabs, in marble looks, stone looks and matte concrete looks.

Calacatta Natural is a 125 by 63 inch sintered stone slab in a white marble look, listed for countertops and shown above on a kitchen counter around a cooktop. 8. Soapstone and honed black granite

Soapstone and honed black granite are two dark, matte options among our countertop slabs. Zillow's 2026 research found that listings mentioning soapstone sold for 2.7% more than expected. Both photos above pair the dark stone with light cabinets or wood.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between quartz and quartzite countertops?

Quartzite is a natural stone: sandstone that heat and pressure turned into a hard, crystalline rock, quarried and cut into slabs, so every slab has its own veining. Quartz countertops are an engineered surface made in a factory from crushed quartz and resin, so the pattern is designed and repeatable. NKBA's 2027 survey puts quartzite at 78% and quartz at 74% among designers, so both stay in the conversation.

Which countertop colors are expected for 2027?

Neutrals and greens lead the kitchen palette. In NKBA's 2027 report, 96% of designers expect neutrals and 83% expect greens in kitchen palettes. Among the 2027 paint colors of the year, Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore and Behr chose greens, while Valspar and Glidden chose blues. As of October 2026 we list 67 green slabs and 72 beige slabs, in materials from marble and quartzite to travertine, limestone and soapstone.

Can one kitchen use two different stone slabs?

Yes. NKBA found 81% of designers see intentional zoning as here to stay, and 90% expect dedicated beverage areas. One pairing from this page: the veined white Verde Statuary on the island with a quieter quartzite or limestone on the perimeter.

Do leathered and honed finishes change the color of the stone?

The finish changes how light hits the surface, so the same stone looks different in each. A polished face reflects light, a honed face is flat and matte, and a leathered face has a soft texture you can feel. Look at the same stone in two finishes, such as the Taj Mahal Supreme quartzite we list in leather and in polished, before you decide.

When will more 2027 trend data come out?

Coverings, the North American tile and stone show, runs April 6 to 9, 2027 in Orlando, and its 2026 trend list was announced ahead of that year's show. Pantone had not announced its 2027 color of the year as of October 22, 2026. We plan to update this page in February 2027 with whatever those sources add.
