What tile is best for a shower floor?

A mosaic with plenty of grout lines: 1x1, 2x2, penny round, hexagon or pebble. The joints give your feet something to grip and the small pieces let the floor slope to the drain without lipping.

Can I use marble in a shower?

Yes, and it is one of the most popular choices here. Seal it before you use the shower, wipe the walls down after use and clean with a pH neutral cleaner. Avoid acidic or abrasive products, which etch the surface.

How big can the tile on a shower wall be?

Most shower walls take 12x24 or 24x48 comfortably. Larger formats need a flat substrate and a proper mortar bed, so check the wall is true before you order.

Do I need a different tile for the shower niche?

Not necessarily. Many people run the wall tile into the niche, or use the floor mosaic there to pick out the recess. Both work; what matters is that the niche is waterproofed and sloped so water drains.

Shower Tile

The floor and the walls have different jobs. A shower floor needs enough grout lines to give grip, so a 1x1 or 2x2 mosaic, a pebble sheet or a hexagon is the right call. The walls can take 12x24 or 24x48 panels, which means fewer joints to scrub.

Natural stone in a shower is fine as long as it is sealed before the first use and cleaned with a pH neutral product. If the shower gets daily use by a big family, matte porcelain is the lower maintenance answer and it now mimics marble convincingly.
