Frequently Asked Questions

What are cement (encaustic) tiles?

Cement tiles carry color and pattern pressed deep into the tile rather than on a surface glaze, so the design wears gracefully. They are handmade, with a soft matte surface and slight variation from tile to tile.

Do cement tiles need sealing?

Yes. Cement tile is porous, so seal it on install and keep it sealed to guard against stains and to protect the color. Use a sealer suited to cement and clean with pH-neutral products.

Multicolor Cement Tiles

Cement tiles, also called encaustic tiles, carry bold color and pattern pressed right into the tile, so the design runs deep rather than sitting on a glaze. This collection features handmade multicolor cement in chevron and patterned designs, for statement floors and eye-catching backsplashes.

The handmade process gives each tile slight variation and a soft, matte surface with real depth. A patterned cement floor turns an entry, a powder room, or a kitchen nook into a focal point. Because the color is solid through the tile, it wears gracefully.

Cement tile is porous and should be sealed on install and kept sealed. For handmade pattern in clay, see glazed terracotta, and for more pattern, pattern tiles.
