Do You Have a Fabricator?

Slabs can only be shipped to a licensed fabricator for unloading. We don't recommend shipping slabs to job sites or to non-fabricators. Before requesting samples, make sure you have a fabricator to handle your slabs.

Slabs Are Heavy and Delicate

Special care is required when shipping slabs. There are two shipping methods:

  • Truck with an A-Frame: Check with your fabricator to see if they are equipped to pick up the slab from our facility where it is located. Your fabricator should contact us to confirm availability and pricing before you order samples. We deliver within 50 miles of the warehouse directly to licensed fabricators only (no job site deliveries).
  • LTL Shipments by Crate: If your fabricator is more than 50 miles from our slab warehouse, they should ask about pricing for crating and shipping. Please contact us for crating charges and confirm freight costs before ordering slab samples.
  • Slabs should be handled only by the people listed above. We are not responsible for any damage or liability from slab handling.
  • Preparation and shipment of slab samples may take 6-9 business days.

Ardesia Black Slate with a Honed Face

Ardesia Black is a natural slate slab with a smooth honed finish and a deep charcoal-black appearance. The surface feels grounded. Supplied in random slab sizes at 1 1/4-inch thickness, it gives kitchen and bathroom plans a dark material for residential countertops, shower walls, and residential or commercial interior walls.

Design

Smoky Charcoal with Subtle Marks

Across the photographed face, charcoal gray and softened black form a broad, low-contrast field with cloudy patches near the upper area. Fine pale scratches and faint linear marks cross several directions. They remain sparse. The bottom edge shows lighter gray mottling, while the center stays largely solid and dark, without bold veins or visible fossils. Honing leaves the surface matte rather than reflective.

Charcoal variation

Soft shifts between gray and black keep the dark field from looking uniform.

Matte honing

The ground surface is smooth but does not carry a polished shine.

Where to use it

Dark Contrast for Counters and Walls

For a kitchen counter, the honed slate can set a strong horizontal line against lighter cabinetry without introducing a busy pattern. It also suits shower walls. In a bathroom, its dark matte face can cover a broad wall while keeping reflections low, and commercial interior walls can use the same reserved charcoal field. A licensed fabricator must evaluate the random slab dimensions before templating.

Random sizing

Actual slab dimensions vary, so the selected piece must be checked against the plan.

Fabricated installation

A licensed fabricator templates, cuts, and installs each selected slab.
