Calacatta Viola oval dining table

This oval dining table is made from Calacatta Viola marble quarried in Turkey. The top measures 75 inches long and 40 inches wide and stands 30 inches high. It is carried on fluted round legs cut from the same marble, so the whole piece reads as one stone object. Each table is shaped and finished by hand by Turkish stone specialists.

Design

Viola veining on an oval top

Calacatta Viola has a white ground crossed by bold veins, with purple and burgundy tones running through softer gray lines. The marble shows moderate variation, so no two tables carry the same pattern. The polished surface deepens the veining and reflects light along the top. A half-bullnose edge rounds over the rim of the oval, soft to the touch and easy on sleeves. Below, the fluted legs add a vertical rhythm of carved channels, which gives the table its character when seen from across an open room.

A marble dining table of this size is very heavy, and it ships packed in a wooden crate. Before delivery, measure doorways and turns on the route to the dining room. The floor should be level and sound, and soft pads under the legs help protect its finish. Two or more people are needed to lift and place the table, setting it straight down rather than sliding it.

Calacatta Viola is a calcite marble with a polished surface. Like all marble it is a porous stone, so acidic food and drink can etch the polish and strong pigments can stain it if left to sit. Sealing helps the surface resist stains, and how often it is resealed depends on how much the table is used.
