How to Buy Slabs

Slabs are delivered only to a licensed fabricator. Review the delivery requirements before requesting samples.

Do You Have a Fabricator?

Slabs can only be shipped to a licensed fabricator for unloading. We don't recommend shipping slabs to job sites or to non-fabricators. Before requesting samples, make sure you have a fabricator to handle your slabs.

Slabs Are Heavy and Delicate

Special care is required when shipping slabs. There are two shipping methods:

Truck with an A-Frame: Check with your fabricator to see if they are equipped to pick up the slab from our facility where it is located. Your fabricator should contact us to confirm availability and pricing before you order samples. We deliver within 50 miles of the warehouse directly to licensed fabricators only (no job site deliveries).
LTL Shipments by Crate: If your fabricator is more than 50 miles from our slab warehouse, they should ask about pricing for crating and shipping. Please contact us for crating charges and confirm freight costs before ordering slab samples.
Slabs should be handled only by the people listed above. We are not responsible for any damage or liability from slab handling.
Preparation and shipment of slab samples may take 6-9 business days.

Lava Stone with a Quiet Honed Face

Lava Stone is a basalt slab with a deep gray to black field, fine grain, and very little visible movement. The surface reads calm. This dense volcanic stone has a honed finish that feels smooth and remains matte, making its restrained color the main feature.

Design

Fine Grain, Honed to Matte

Seen straight on, the face is almost black, with subtle charcoal variation and a light scatter of tiny gray pinpoints across the broad field. There are no strong veins. The markings remain sparse and evenly distributed, while the honed treatment softens reflections and lets the basalt's consistent grain hold the composition together.

Nearly solid dark field

The slab appears black from a distance, then reveals faint charcoal shifts at closer range.

Small natural markings

Tiny pale spots interrupt the surface lightly without creating a busy or directional pattern.

Where to use it

Dark Basalt for Focused Installations

For residential countertops, the quiet pattern creates a broad dark plane that can sit comfortably beside detailed cabinetry or simpler finishes. It stays visually controlled. Lava Stone is also listed for shower walls and commercial interior walls, with bathroom and kitchen projects offering the clearest fit.

Substantial thickness

This random-size natural stone slab is listed at 1 1/4 inches thick.

Slight piece variation

Color changes only slightly between pieces, supporting a measured gray-to-black installation.

Why we chose it

Dense volcanic characterBasalt brings fine grain and consistent dark color without the sweeping veins found in many other natural stones.
A reserved matte finishHoning grinds the face smooth but leaves it matte, keeping glare from overtaking the subtle surface markings.
Individual slab selectionEach natural stone slab has its own markings, so the current photos help buyers choose the actual pieces they prefer.

Questions we get

What should I expect from the honed finish?

It is smooth and matte rather than reflective. On this basalt, honing keeps the dark field soft and the fine grain understated.

How do natural stone batches work?

A batch contains slabs cut from one block, so those slabs match most closely. Each still has individual markings visible in its photo.

How do I receive a price?

Lava Stone is sold by slab and priced by quote. Request pricing for the slabs selected from the current photos.
