How to Buy Slabs

Slabs are delivered only to a licensed fabricator. Review the delivery requirements before requesting samples.

Do You Have a Fabricator?

Slabs can only be shipped to a licensed fabricator for unloading. We don't recommend shipping slabs to job sites or to non-fabricators. Before requesting samples, make sure you have a fabricator to handle your slabs.

Slabs Are Heavy and Delicate

Special care is required when shipping slabs. There are two shipping methods:

Truck with an A-Frame: Check with your fabricator to see if they are equipped to pick up the slab from our facility where it is located. Your fabricator should contact us to confirm availability and pricing before you order samples. We deliver within 50 miles of the warehouse directly to licensed fabricators only (no job site deliveries).
LTL Shipments by Crate: If your fabricator is more than 50 miles from our slab warehouse, they should ask about pricing for crating and shipping. Please contact us for crating charges and confirm freight costs before ordering slab samples.
Slabs should be handled only by the people listed above. We are not responsible for any damage or liability from slab handling.
Preparation and shipment of slab samples may take 6-9 business days.

Portillo Quartzite in Flowing Polished Layers

Portillo is a quartzite slab with a creamy beige ground and long, layered movement that becomes clearer under its polished finish. The pattern travels. This natural stone comes in random dimensions with a listed 1 1/4 inch thickness for custom kitchen, bathroom, or living room fabrication.

Design

Cream Bands Sweep on the Diagonal

The photo shows ivory, cream, and pale beige layered with fine taupe, gray, and warm brown lines. Veining is dense but gentle. Most bands run diagonally from lower left toward upper right, then bend and overlap around translucent cloudy zones, fine fractures, and a heavier gray beige cluster near the lower right.

Long directional flow

Layered bands sweep diagonally and create a clear orientation for cutting.

Polished layers

The reflective finish deepens the creamy ground and fine earth-colored lines.

Where to use it

Let the Veins Set the Layout

For residential countertops, the long diagonal bands can give a kitchen layout a strong sense of movement across the selected cuts. Planning matters here. A bathroom shower wall or living room residential interior wall can show a broader section of the layered quartzite, including its clouds and changing line density.

The vein direction changes across each natural piece. Seeing the full face helps the buyer and fabricator discuss placement before templating.

How are Portillo batches organized?

A batch contains slabs cut from one block, so those pieces usually provide the closest match. Every slab still has individual markings.

Can I request a sample before ordering?

Yes. A slab sample takes 6 to 9 business days to prepare, while the full slab is selected from the current photos.
