How do the red ceramic tiles differ?
They share a glossy red glaze, and the differences are in shade and surface. Era Ombre has a glaze that grades across the face, so the shading changes from piece to piece. Vino Glossy Vienna is a deep burgundy, a wine red with a high gloss. Barcelona is described as a deep red, and Zaragosa as a strong red in a classic small format. All four have a style field that reads Classic.
The 8x8 squares are plain reds, and their style field reads Solid Color. Lafonia has no pattern, shading or texture. Kodye comes in one glossy red with no pattern, and Manukie has no shading between pieces. The 6x8, which goes by the design name Tioma, is a glossy red in a size outside the standard field formats, and that odd proportion is what makes it an accent piece. All eight have a straight cut edge.
Vino or Rich Cinnamon shade?
The color group field splits them into two shade families. Zaragosa, Barcelona, Era Ombre and Vino Vienna are grouped as Vino, the wine side of red. The 6x8 Tioma and the three 8x8 squares, Kodye, Manukie and Lafonia, are grouped as Rich Cinnamon, a name that points to a warmer, browner red. To keep one even red on a wall, stay inside one shade family.
How are the accent tiles sold?
Barcelona 4x8, Vino Vienna 4x8 and Era Ombre 6x6 are sold one piece at a time, at 0.22, 0.22 and 0.25 square feet a piece. Zaragosa 3x6 has no box count on the listing; each piece covers 0.125 square feet, so eight pieces make one square foot.
The 6x8 comes fourteen to a box, at 4.67 square feet a box, which works out to about a third of a square foot a piece. Kodye, Manukie and Lafonia, the 8x8 squares, also come fourteen to a box, at 6.22 square feet a box.
Where can red ceramic tile go?
None of the red accent tiles here is listed for floors; all are wall tiles. Zaragosa 3x6 is rated for shower walls and tagged for bathrooms, and the Vino Vienna description also names shower surrounds. Manukie 8x8 is rated for backsplashes. The rest have a commercial or residential interior wall rating: Era Ombre, Vino Vienna, Kodye and Lafonia for commercial walls, Barcelona and the 6x8 for walls in a home.
The rooms they are tagged for spread across the house. Zaragosa, Lafonia and the 6x8 are tagged for bathrooms, Era Ombre for kitchens, and Barcelona, Vino Vienna, Kodye and Manukie for living rooms.
Which sizes line up with each other?
Five sizes in all. The 3x6 Zaragosa is the smallest piece. Barcelona and Vino Vienna are both 4x8, a slim rectangle twice as long as it is wide. Era Ombre is a 6x6 square, the Tioma piece is 6x8, and the Kodye, Manukie and Lafonia squares are 8x8. All are 3/8 inch thick, and the face area per piece runs from 0.125 square feet on the 3x6 to 0.44 square feet on the 8x8.
Some of these sizes share a dimension, which makes them easy to combine in one panel. Two 4x8 pieces side by side match one 8x8 square, so Barcelona or Vino Vienna can border a field of Kodye, Manukie or Lafonia. Two 3x6 Zaragosa pieces match one 6x6 Era Ombre square, and the 6x8 shares its 6 inch side with both the Zaragosa and the Era Ombre and its 8 inch side with the 8x8 squares.
