Marble looks in porcelain
Most white porcelain slabs copy a white marble. The Dolcissima range includes Calacatta Super White, Calacatta Oro, Calacatta Antique, Statuarietto and Lasa Argento. Maestro Bernini Classico and Bernini Oro follow a Calacatta pattern, and the Lappato Lucido slabs include Arabescato Corchia, Macchia Vecchia and Crystal Diamond. Pure White and Luxe White are plain whites for a clean, solid surface.
How porcelain differs from marble
A porcelain slab is made, not quarried. Clay and minerals are pressed into a thin sheet and fired at high heat, so the surface is dense, does not etch from acids and takes very little water. The pattern is printed, which means it repeats more closely than real stone; A and B versions of the same design are made to give more variety across a wall or a long counter.
Finish and size
White porcelain slabs come polished, for a glossy marble look, or natural, a matte face. Lappato is a semi polished finish with a soft sheen. Most are about 1/2 inch thick, used for countertops and walls, with thinner sheets for wall cladding. Sizes are fixed by the maker and listed in each title.
