Black zellige, handmade
Urban Ebony is a glossy black zellige at 4x4, from the handmade Moroccan range. Fifty pieces come in a box for 5.56 square feet, and the 1/2 inch body is thicker than a machine pressed tile of the same size would be.
Design
Made by hand, and it shows
Zellige is shaped and glazed by hand, which means every piece arrives slightly different: edges wander, faces ripple, and the glaze pools thicker in some places than others. On a black glaze those variations become very visible, because reflection maps every undulation. That is the reason to buy it and also the reason it will never look like a printed tile. Kitchen wall tiles in this style are usually chosen precisely for that irregularity.

Hand shaping means edges and faces vary from piece to piece.

Reflection on a dark glaze maps every ripple in the surface.
Where to use it
Residential interior walls is the rating recorded, kitchen the room. Thirteen boxes cover 60 square feet with cutting allowed. Handmade tile needs a setter who will work with the variation rather than fight it, since forcing irregular pieces into a rigid grid produces a worse result than letting the line breathe slightly.

Care
A household tile cleaner and a soft cloth keep the glaze clear. Black gloss shows water spots readily, so drying the face after cleaning is worth the extra pass.
