Four sizes, one repeat
The Versailles pattern arrives as a set of marble sizes that repeat in a fixed layout, and one repeat covers 8 square feet. Fantasia Blanca is a white marble with moderate variation from piece to piece, so a finished floor reads as quarried stone rather than as rows of tile. The face is textured and the edges are chiselled, which keeps every joint soft and absorbs the small differences that come with natural stone. These white marble pattern tiles belong to the Cottage Stone collection and are rated for outdoor floors as well as interior rooms. Pieces are sold individually, so the number that matters is how many repeats the area takes.
Design
Chiselled edges, worn white
Colour runs from chalk to a pale warm grey, and the veining changes across the sizes inside the repeat. The textured face has a shallow relief that keeps its footing when wet and hides the scuffs an outdoor floor collects. Moderate variation is normal for this stone: two pieces out of the same crate can differ in tone, which is exactly why the pattern looks quarried once it is down. At 1/2 inch the pieces stay thin enough for an interior floor and heavy enough for a terrace on a proper bed. The chiselled edge leaves a slightly broken line at every joint, softer than a saw cut and more forgiving of a millimetre here or there.

The broken edge absorbs small differences between pieces and keeps the joint from looking machined.
Moderate variation
Tone shifts from piece to piece. Dry-lay one full repeat before setting so the darker pieces are spread evenly.
Where to use it
Setting the first repeat
Rated for outdoor floors, the pattern also suits a kitchen or a living room where one large format would fall flat. Pieces are sold individually and one repeat covers 8 square feet, so count repeats for the area rather than counting tiles, then add pieces for the cuts at the walls. Set the first repeat dry and mark it before any mortar goes down; the layout is fixed and a mistake in the opening square carries across the whole floor. Marble pattern tiles in this same white are also stocked as honed 12x12 and 18x18 tiles, fine textured 16x24 tiles and tumbled pavers in 16x24 and 18x36, which covers a step, a border or a landing without changing stone. Seal before grouting, because a textured marble face takes grout haze into its low spots and does not give it back.
Sold by the piece
Each piece is priced on its own. Work out how many repeats the area needs, then add pieces for perimeter cuts.

Care
Seal the marble after installation and again every one to two years, sooner outdoors where weather works on it. Clean with a pH-neutral stone cleaner; anything acidic, from a lemon to a wine spill, etches the surface. Keep abrasive pads off the textured face, which holds onto grit and turns it into scratches.
