A Toros Black pedestal with an oval top
This pedestal sink is carved by hand from two solid pieces of Toros Black marble quarried in Turkey: a tapered column base and an oval basin on top. Together they stand 33.5 inches high, with a top 17 inches wide and 20 inches long. Black marble gives a bathroom a moody, modern look, and a freestanding piece like this one is both the everyday sink and the visual anchor of the room.
Design
A tapered column, an oval bowl
The column narrows from bottom to top, which keeps the silhouette slim and lets the oval basin read as a separate carved bowl resting on it. The shape sits between modern minimalism and classic marble work. The finish is polished on the inside and outside, giving the black a deep gloss and showing the fine white veins that run through it. Variation is moderate: some pieces are almost solid black, others carry more white lines, and every sink is different. The curved edges of the bowl help keep water from splashing over the rim, and a removable drain cap makes the basin simple to clean. These small details are part of what separates a carved pedestal from a mass-produced one.

A pedestal takes up far less floor than a vanity, which makes this sink a good fit for a compact bathroom or powder room, and it holds its own in a larger primary bath. The 26 inch column sets the basin at a comfortable working height. Black stone suits a modern bathroom with white walls, a dark room with brass fittings, or a classic space with patterned tile. The 4 cm drain hole takes standard drain fittings, and the stone walls are 2 to 3 cm thick.

Installation
Check the floor and plumbing
As a stand-alone pedestal, the sink carries its whole weight to the floor. Solid marble is heavy, so the floor must be level and strong enough to take it. The plumbing can come from the wall behind or up through the floor; decide which before the floor is finished, so the drain and supply lines line up with the column and the basin. Because the basin has no deck, the faucet is usually mounted on the wall, at a height that reaches over the rim. A professional installer is recommended for setting the column and top.

Care
Toros Black is a porous calcite marble with a polished surface. Acidic liquids can etch it and dull the gloss, and sealing helps keep stains and water out. How often it is resealed depends on use, often every 6 to 12 months.
