Toros Black marble, a compact polished basin
This rectangular sink is carved from Toros Black marble quarried in Turkey. Each one is cut individually from a single stone block, so the pattern of white veining across the black background is never the same twice. The piece measures 12 inches wide, 19 inches long and 7 inches high, a compact size meant for powder rooms, guest bathrooms and primary suites where the basin needs presence without a large footprint. It is polished inside and out, and it can be hung on the wall or set on top of a vanity like a vessel sink.

Design
Deep black with white veining
Each Toros Black sink is shaped by artisans using traditional stone-carving techniques, which is why no two finish exactly alike. The polished surface gives the black marble a high gloss that catches light and brings the white veining forward, so the veins seem to move across the stone as the light changes. Both the interior and the exterior are finished to the same polish, which makes the basin smooth and simple to clean and gives the outside a sculptural look from every angle. The sink has no overflow, which leaves the full depth of the basin usable in a small footprint. The edges are curved and the surfaces smooth, so there are no tight corners where grime can build up. Because the veining is natural, its density and direction vary from piece to piece, and moderate color variation is normal for this marble.

Where to use it
On the wall or on a vanity
Hung on the wall, the sink removes the footprint of a vanity or pedestal, which opens up floor space and makes a compact bathroom easier to clean and lighter to look at. The mounting height can also be set to suit the people using it, from standing comfort to a lower height for wheelchair access. Set on top of a vanity, it reads as a vessel bowl and becomes the focal point of the counter. Designers often pair black marble with brass fixtures, warm wood vanities or matte black accents, where the contrast does the work. Against white walls or light stone tile, the black basin stands out as a sculptural object; against dark walls it reads as part of the architecture. Either way, the natural veining keeps the black from looking flat or uniform, which a factory-made basin cannot offer. The 4 cm drain hole connects to standard plumbing with minimal changes.

Installation
Plan the mounting early
Solid marble is heavy, even in a compact size. For a wall installation, the wall needs blocking between the studs at the chosen height, added while the wall is open, and the sink is hung on brackets fixed into it. Pair it with a wall-mounted faucet, and run the supply lines to match before the wall is closed. On a vanity, the top must be flat, level and strong, a drain hole is cut to line up with the 4 cm drain, and the sink is set in silicone; the faucet must then reach over the 7 inch rim. A professional installer is recommended for the weight and the plumbing.

Care
Toros Black is a calcite marble and, like all marble, a porous stone. Acidic products such as lemon or vinegar can etch the polish, and on black marble an etch mark shows as a dull spot. Sealing helps the stone resist toothpaste, soap and cosmetics, and how often it is resealed depends on use, typically about once a year.
