What honed means
A honed slab is ground flat and smooth but stopped before polishing, so the face is matte instead of reflective. On quartzite, honing softens the contrast of the veining and gives the stone a calm, natural look. The surface feels smooth to the touch, without the brushed texture of a leathered finish.
Honed or polished quartzite
Polish deepens color and makes the crystal sparkle. Honed reads lighter and softer, does not show glare from windows or pendants, and is the closer match to the honed marble look many kitchens are after. Because quartzite is hard, a honed quartzite holds up to daily use far better than a honed marble.
Stones in honed
The honed quartzites here include Taj Mahal Supreme, Perla Venato and Monte Blanc in warm and cool whites; Cristallo Frost, Cristallo Iluminato and Le Blanc with a crystal look; Ijen Blue and Blue Taj in blue; Emerald Green, Jadore and Venom in green; and Negresco and Soyeux Noir in black. Most are 1 1/4 inch for countertops, with some at 3/4 inch.
