What a leathered finish is
A leathered finish is made with diamond brushes that wear down the softer minerals in the stone and leave the harder ones standing. The result is a matte face with a slight, soft texture, like fine leather under the hand. Color reads deeper than on a honed face, and the surface has a low sheen rather than a mirror shine.
Why quartzite is leathered
Quartzite is hard, and leathering suits it well. The brushed face hides fingerprints, water spots and the small marks of daily kitchen use better than polish does. On dark stones like Negresco, Anubis and Bronzite it keeps the color rich without the glare of a polished black. On lighter stones like Taj Mahal Supreme, Calacatta Giotto and White Tiger it gives a soft, natural look.
Stones in leathered
The leathered quartzites here run across every color: Venom, Dublin Green and Malachite Green in green; London Gray and Cielo in gray; Chivas, Bronzite and Sandalus Dark in brown; Negresco and Amarula in black; and Taj Mahal Supreme, Calacatta Giotto and White Tiger in white and cream. Most are 1 1/4 inch for countertops, some 3/4 inch.
