Black basalt rectangular shower base
This rectangular shower base is hand carved from first quality black basalt, a volcanic stone quarried in Turkey. It measures 48 inches long, 32 inches wide and 3 inches high, with stone 2 to 3 cm thick, and the surface is honed. Basalt is a durable natural stone for shower floors and handles water well, and a single carved piece gives the shower a solid, stable foundation for daily use.
Design
Charcoal black with a velvet feel
The honed finish gives the basalt a smooth, velvety surface that feels good underfoot and keeps the color a deep charcoal black without glare. It is a finish that balances durability with modest upkeep, and it sits well in both modern and classic bathrooms. The dark color and fine texture of basalt hide dirt and marks well between cleanings. Each base takes on its own character through the natural color variation of the stone, so no two are identical, and moderate variation between pieces is normal. A black stone floor works with white tile for strong contrast, or with gray and black walls for a darker, quieter shower.

Where to use it
A roomy rectangular footprint
At 48 by 32 inches, the base suits a standard alcove or a walk in shower with room to move. The 3 inch total height, with stone 2 to 3 cm thick, gives a stable floor that does not flex or creak in use. The base has a pre drilled 8.5 cm drain hole, ready for a standard drain, which is not included. The position of that hole shapes the final shower layout, so the drain location should be coordinated with the plumber before installation. For a shower with a glass screen and a single long run of stone, this rectangular base keeps the floor in one piece from wall to screen.

Installation
Set by a pro on mortar
Professional installation is recommended. The base is set on a level mortar bed over a proper shower membrane, with a watertight joint to the surrounding walls. The base is heavy, so the subfloor must give it adequate support. The plumbing rough in should place the drain under the pre drilled 8.5 cm hole before the base is set. The base ships in a strong wooden crate for safe delivery. Once set, the joints between the base and the wall tile are sealed so water stays on the stone.

Care
Basalt is a natural volcanic stone with a honed surface, and it is porous. Sealing with a professional grade stone sealer is recommended for stain resistance, and periodic resealing keeps the protection in place, with frequency depending on use. Acidic products can dull the honed finish, and good ventilation after showers helps the stone dry.
