Calacatta Viola with its own backsplash
This wall-mount sink is carved from solid Calacatta Viola marble quarried in Turkey. No two blocks of marble are the same, so each sink is a one-of-a-kind piece with its own pattern of veining. The sink measures 18 inches wide, 24 inches long and 6 inches high, and it comes with an integrated 12 by 24 inch backsplash, 3/4 inch thick, in the same stone. The backsplash protects the wall behind the basin and carries the veining up from the sink, so basin and wall read as one continuous surface. The finish is polished, giving the marble a glossy, reflective face. It is a substantial focal point for a powder room or a primary bath.
Design
Plum veins on a creamy white ground
Calacatta Viola has a creamy white background streaked with deep wine and plum-colored veining, and in places the veins turn violet-gray. That contrast gives the stone an expressive, sculptural presence. The polished finish brings the color forward: It creates a glossy, luminous surface that closes the face of the stone and gives a little more time to deal with spills before they set. Inside, the basin is curved, which minimizes the corners where debris collects and makes daily upkeep more straightforward than a sharply angled design. The matching backsplash is cut from the same marble, so the veining continues from the sink to the wall. Moderate color variation between sinks is normal for this stone: some show more purple, some more white.

Where to use it
Wall-hung or on a vanity
A wall-mounted sink opens up the floor, which makes a small bathroom feel larger and easier to mop. It also helps with accessibility, since the mounting height and the knee clearance underneath can be set to suit the people using the room. The sink can also sit on top of a vanity where storage is needed. The 1.5 inch drain hole comes pre-drilled for standard plumbing fixtures. There are no pre-cut faucet holes, which leaves full freedom to place the faucet on the wall, on the counter, or wherever the layout calls for it.

Installation
Decide the faucet, then the wall
Solid marble is heavy, so a wall-mounted sink needs blocking between the studs at the mounting height, added while the wall is open. The backsplash fixes to the wall behind the basin. Because there are no pre-cut faucet holes, the faucet choice comes first: a wall-mounted faucet needs its rough-in set above the basin before the wall is finished, while a counter or vanity setup needs the hole placed in the right spot. If the sink sits on a vanity, the top must be flat, level and strong, and the sink is set in silicone. Professional installation is recommended for the weight and to line up the drain and supply lines.

Care
Calacatta Viola is a porous calcite marble, and acids such as vinegar or citrus can etch its polished surface. It should be sealed at installation with an impregnating sealer, and how often it is resealed after that depends on how much the bathroom is used.
