Design

Craftsmen carve each sink from a solid block of marble, then shape, smooth and polish it by hand. Because a vessel sink rises above the countertop, the whole bowl is on display, and it reads less like plumbing and more like a carved object on the vanity. The raised basin can also be more comfortable to use, since it sits closer to hand height. Installation
Setting it on the counter
Above-countertop installation keeps changes to an existing vanity small. The counter needs to be flat, level and strong enough to carry solid marble, and a drain hole is cut in it to line up with the sink. The bowl is then set in silicone. The faucet must clear the petal rim, so a tall vessel faucet or a wall-mounted faucet is the usual choice; either should be chosen before the counter is drilled. Plumbing stays easy to reach for maintenance beneath the counter. A professional installer can confirm the faucet reach and drain position. Whether the faucet is deck mounted beside the bowl or set into the wall behind it, its spout should reach past the petals to the center of the basin.

Care
Carrara White is a porous calcite marble with a polished surface. Acidic or abrasive substances can etch and dull the polish, and the stone is protected with a sealer. How often it is resealed depends on how much the sink is used.
