A square vessel in Carrara White
This square vessel sink is carved by hand, one at a time, from Carrara White marble quarried in Turkey. The gray veining is part of the stone, not applied to it, and it never repeats from one block to the next, so every sink is one of a kind. It measures 17 inches wide, 17 inches long and 6 inches high, and it sits on top of the counter.
Design
Clean lines in polished white
The form is a square bowl with straight sides and clean lines, a geometric shape that moves easily between modern, contemporary, traditional and transitional bathrooms. Set on the counter, its sculptural profile is far more present than a basin set into the counter. The surfaces are polished inside and out to a mirror-like finish. That polish reflects light around the bathroom, which helps a small room feel brighter, and it gives the white marble and its gray veins a crisp, clear look. A well kept polished surface also avoids the dull, watermarked appearance of unfinished stone. The walls are 2 to 3 cm thick, solid marble with no hidden seams. Moderate colour variation is normal for Carrara White, and the gray veining will differ in pattern and density from sink to sink.

Where to use it
Proportioned for a standard vanity
At 17 by 17 inches with a 6 inch height, the square sits in proportion on a standard bathroom vanity without dominating it. The white and gray suit both warm and cool palettes: walnut or oak cabinetry, white or dark counters, chrome, nickel, brass or black fixtures. A pair of squares on a double vanity keeps the geometry tidy across a long counter. Marble also stays naturally cool to the touch. The 4 cm drain hole accommodates standard plumbing connections without modification, and because it is an above-counter sink, there is no rim set into the counter where moisture can collect.

Installation
Set it on a flat counter
Solid marble is heavy, so the counter must be flat, level and strong enough to carry the bowl. A drain hole is cut in the counter to line up with the 4 cm drain, and the sink is set in silicone around its base. The bowl stands 6 inches above the counter, so the faucet must reach over the rim: a tall deck-mounted vessel faucet or a wall-mounted faucet. For a square bowl, center the spout over the drain, and choose the faucet before the counter is cut.

Care
Carrara White is a calcite marble, and like all marble it is porous: acids such as lemon or vinegar can etch the polished surface, and water and stains can be absorbed if the stone is left unsealed. How often it is resealed depends on use, typically once or twice a year.
