Carrara White, ribbed across 38 inches

This wall-mount sink is carved from Carrara White marble quarried in Turkey. It measures 38 inches long, 16 inches wide and 6 inches high, a slim proportion made for bathrooms where floor space is limited and visual weight matters. The front face is ribbed, the basin inside is smooth, and the whole piece is honed. Gray veining runs across the white base in a pattern that belongs to this block alone, so each sink is a little different from the next.

Design

Vertical ribs on a honed face

The ribbed front gives the sink an architectural rhythm. The vertical grooves catch light and shadow through the day, while the inside of the basin and the edges stay smooth and curved, with no hidden crevices where residue collects. The honed finish is matte rather than glossy. It shows the grain and veining of the marble softly and hides small marks from daily use more gracefully than a high shine would, which counts in a bathroom used every day. Moderate colour variation is normal for Carrara White, so the tone and density of the veining will differ between sinks.

Where to use it

Open floor, more light

Hung on the wall, the sink frees the floor that a cabinet would take. Light reaches more of the floor, there are no dark corners under the basin, and a modest bathroom feels larger and more open. The 38 inch length gives a generous wash area and a little ledge space, while the 16 inch depth keeps it out of the way in a narrow room. Reinforce the wall first

Solid marble is heavy, so wall mounting needs proper reinforcement. The wall should have blocking between the studs at the mounting height, added while the wall is open, and the sink hangs on secure brackets in the 1 inch space beneath it. Plan the faucet early: most wall-mount sinks use a faucet that comes out of the wall above the basin, so the supply lines and valve must be roughed in before the wall is closed. If the sink is set on a vanity instead, the top must be flat, level and strong. Professional installation is recommended for even weight distribution and long-term support. Carrara White is a porous calcite marble. Acids such as citrus, vinegar or wine etch it, leaving a dull, lighter spot whether or not it is sealed, while sealing slows absorption and gives more time before a spill can stain. How often it is resealed depends on use; bathrooms usually need it less often than kitchens.
