A honey onyx pedestal sink
This stand-alone pedestal sink is hand carved from honey onyx quarried in Turkey. Basin and column are one sculpted form, so the sink needs no vanity, cabinet or wall bracket to hold it up. Honey onyx is a translucent stone with golden, amber and soft beige tones, and the polished finish brings out its depth and banding. The sink measures 22 inches wide, 22 inches long and 34 inches high. Every piece is shaped individually by craftsmen, which means the veining, color and character of each one are its own. The 2 to 3 cm stone wall gives the basin a solid, substantial feel.
Design
Basin and column in one
The generous basin sits on top of a carved column, giving the sink a strong vertical line that anchors the room. Seen from across the bathroom, it reads as a piece of sculpture first and a fixture second. The polished surface catches light through the day and shows the movement of the stone at every angle. Because onyx is translucent, thinner areas can glow softly under bathroom lighting, which gives the warm honey color a gentle luminosity. The basin has no overflow, keeping the inside of the bowl clean and uninterrupted. Its edges are curved rather than sharp, with no gaps or seams where dirt can settle. Moderate color variation is normal in honey onyx: tone, banding and veining shift from one sink to the next, and no two are identical.

Where a pedestal sink fits
A stand-alone sink gives a lot of freedom in planning the room. It can stand against a wall, in a corner, or out in the open as a center point, as long as the plumbing can reach it. It suits a powder room or guest bath where a single sculptural piece sets the tone, and a primary suite that has the floor space to show it off. The warm honey tone pairs well with brass fixtures and natural wood, and it sits easily in a modern bathroom as well as a transitional or traditional one. At 34 inches high, the basin sits at a comfortable working height for daily washing, and the 22 inch square footprint leaves a generous bowl. A 4 cm drain hole takes a standard drain. Because there is no cabinet below, the floor around the base stays open and easy to clean, and a small bathroom keeps more visible floor area.

Installation
Floor and plumbing first
A stand-alone stone sink rests its full weight on the floor, and solid onyx is heavy. The floor needs to be level and strong enough to carry it, which is worth confirming before the sink arrives, especially on an upper floor or over a suspended subfloor. The drain and supply lines can come from the wall behind the sink or up through the floor beneath it, and their position should be planned to fall within the footprint of the pedestal. The faucet is usually wall-mounted or set on the floor beside the sink, so that choice belongs in the plumbing plan as well. A professional installer is recommended to move the sink into place and connect the drain cleanly.

Care
Onyx is a soft, porous calcite stone with a polished surface. Acidic liquids can etch the polish and hard water and strong pigments can mark it if left to sit. The sink is protected with a stone sealer, and how often it is resealed depends on how much the bathroom is used.
