An asymmetric marble vessel, carved by hand
This vessel sink is carved by hand from Turkish marble into an asymmetric, sculptural form. It measures 22 inches long, 14 inches wide and stands 10 inches high, so it has real presence on a vanity. Two stones are available: Carrara White marble, with gray veining on a white base, and Toros Black marble. Both are polished inside and out. Each sink is carved individually, and the irregular outline means the form itself is as much a part of the design as the stone.
Design
A curved, organic outline
The sink has no straight sides. Its curved, organic silhouette is deliberately uneven, and the polished surface catches light at different angles through the day, so the form looks a little different from morning to evening. Polishing gives the marble a high-gloss, reflective face that brings out the movement and depth of the natural veining. Turkish marble is known for strong, bold veining, and in this shape the pattern wraps around the curves rather than running in a flat sheet. The interior is smooth and polished like the exterior, which makes the basin easy to clean. Because each sink is carved by hand from a block of natural stone, the veining, color and pattern differ from piece to piece. Moderate color variation is normal for this marble. It is the mark of genuine stone and hand carving, and it means no two of these sinks are the same.

Where to use it
A centerpiece for the vanity
Vessel sinks sit on top of the counter, and an asymmetric bowl like this one turns the sink into the focal point of the room. It suits a powder room, where guests see it first, as well as a primary bath that is designed around one strong piece. The 10 inch height gives the bowl a commanding profile, so it needs a vanity with enough space around it to be seen. The Carrara White version brings a light, bright look with soft gray veins; the Toros Black version is darker and more dramatic. The polished surface and curved design work with modern, contemporary, traditional and transitional bathrooms. The 4 cm drain hole takes standard plumbing for a straightforward installation, and the sink is made without an overflow, which keeps the inside of the basin plain and simple.

Installation
A level counter and a tall faucet
The sink sits above the counter, so the counter must be flat, level and strong enough to carry solid marble, which is heavy. A drain hole is cut in the counter to line up with the 4 cm drain, and the sink is set in silicone. Because the bowl stands 10 inches above the counter, the faucet has to clear a tall rim: a tall vessel faucet on the deck or a wall-mounted faucet with a long enough spout. The asymmetric outline also means the faucet position matters, so set the bowl on the counter and decide where the spout lands before the counter is cut. Confirm the faucet with the plumber before installation day.

Care
Both versions are polished calcite marble. Marble is a porous stone, so acidic substances such as coffee, wine or citrus can etch the polish and leave marks if they sit. Sealing protects the surface, and how often the sink is resealed depends on how much it is used.
