Black Marble Pedestal Sink Conical Bathroom Vessel, photo 2 of 2

Marble · Stand-Alone sink

A black marble cone on its own pedestal

This freestanding sink is carved from solid black marble quarried in Turkey and stands on its own: a round basin set on a conical pedestal that tapers to the floor. It is made from two blocks of stone, one for the basin and one for the column, and stands 36 inches tall with a 16 inch basin diameter. The finish is a deliberate contrast. The basin is polished, and the pedestal is left rough, with a textured, combed surface. Because the marble is carved by hand, the depth of the black, the natural striations and the texture of the column vary from piece to piece.

Design

Polished basin, rough column

The two finishes work together. Inside the basin, the polish gives the black marble a smooth, reflective face that shows the depth of the stone. Below it, the rough pedestal has a tactile, combed texture that catches light in lines and reads almost matte. The conical silhouette draws the eye upward and gives the bathroom a strong vertical line without taking much floor. The basin walls are carved 2 to 3 cm thick, and the edges are rounded. Moderate color variation is normal for this stone, and small differences in tone and finish across the surface are marks of hand carving, not defects.

Where to use it

A sink that stands alone

A pedestal sink needs no vanity cabinet, so it takes up very little floor and leaves the room open around it. That suits a small powder room or a modest guest bath, and in a large primary bathroom the sink becomes a sculptural piece in its own right. The proportions, 36 inches tall with a 16 inch basin, work in contemporary, minimalist and traditional bathrooms. Black marble reads strongly against pale tile, plaster or light wood floors. The 4 cm drain opening, about 1.5 inches, fits standard drain assemblies.

Installation

A level floor and planned plumbing

A freestanding sink rests its full weight on the floor, and two blocks of solid marble are heavy. The floor must be level and strong enough to carry the stone. Plumbing can come from the wall or the floor, and its position should be planned before the floor and wall are finished, so the drain and supply lines meet the pedestal cleanly. The faucet is usually mounted on the wall above the basin, and its rough-in height should be set for a 36 inch sink. A professional installer is recommended for moving and placing the stone.

Why we chose it

  • Carved by handBasin and pedestal are shaped from solid marble, so every sink is one of a kind.
  • No vanity neededThe sink stands on its own and leaves the floor open around it.
  • Made to orderEach sink is made to order, with custom sizes and finishes on request.

Made to order

Made to order

This sink is made to order on two schedules: the 3 to 4 week option ships sooner, while the 8 to 14 week option is the lower-priced choice. Proportions, the basin diameter and the finish on the pedestal can also be adjusted for a specific room. To start a custom order, contact us with the measurements of the space.

Care

Black marble is a porous calcite stone, so acidic products such as vinegar or lemon juice can etch the polished basin and stains can set if left. Sealing protects the stone, and how often it is resealed depends on how much the sink is used.
