Travertine · Vessel sink

Split face travertine, round and rugged

This round vessel sink is hand-carved from beige travertine quarried in Turkey. The outside is split face, a rough, broken texture that shows the raw grain of the stone, while the inside is smooth and honed. It measures 16 inches in diameter and 6 inches high. Each sink is shaped individually by traditional stone-carving methods, so the texture, veining and warm beige tones are never repeated exactly.

Design

Rough outside, honed inside

The contrast is the whole idea. Split face means the exterior is left with the irregular, chiseled surface of freshly split stone, full of ridges and hollows that catch light and shadow from every angle. Inside, the basin is honed smooth to a soft matte surface that feels refined under the hand. Next to each other, the two textures give the sink a depth that a single uniform surface cannot. The basin edges are curved, with no crevices for dirt to settle in. The walls are 2 to 3 cm thick, solid travertine throughout. Travertine is naturally porous and full of character, and the warm beige carries soft veining and moderate colour variation from piece to piece, which is normal for this stone.

Where to use it

A textured bowl for warm rooms

The light beige palette works across modern, transitional, rustic and traditional bathrooms without asking the rest of the room to change around it. The split face texture pairs naturally with wood, plaster, stone walls and aged brass or black fixtures, and it gives a simple vanity a strong visual anchor. At 16 inches in diameter and 6 inches tall, the proportions suit a wide range of vanity sizes, from a powder room to a primary bath. The bowl sits above the counter, so the textured sides stay visible. The standard 4 cm drain hole accommodates straightforward installation with standard drain fittings.

Installation

Set it on a flat counter

Solid stone is heavy, so the counter must be flat, level and strong. A drain hole is cut in the counter to line up with the 4 cm drain, and the sink is set in silicone; the base sits flat even though the sides are textured. The bowl stands 6 inches above the counter, so the faucet must reach over the rim: a tall deck-mounted vessel faucet or a wall-mounted faucet. Choose the faucet before the counter is cut, so the holes are placed together.

Why we chose it

  • Two textures in one stoneA split face exterior and a honed interior, carved from the same block.
  • Ages with useSealed travertine develops a patina over the years rather than looking worn.
  • Made to orderEach sink is made to order, with custom sizes, shapes and finishes on request.

Made to order

Made to order

This sink is made to order on two production schedules, both in the 16 by 6 inch size with the split face and honed finish. The 3 to 4 week option ships sooner, while the 8 to 14 week option is the lower-priced choice. While the standard size suits most bathrooms, custom sizes, shapes and finishes can also be made for a particular vanity or space. Care

Travertine is a porous calcite stone, so acidic products such as vinegar can etch it, and periodic sealing keeps water and stains from soaking in. How often it is resealed depends on use, typically once a year.
