Onyx · Vessel sink

Honey onyx, carved into a round bowl

This round vessel sink is carved from a single block of honey onyx quarried in Turkey. It measures 16 inches in diameter and 6 inches high and sits on top of the counter. Honey onyx is a banded stone with a mix of warm amber and golden tones, and the colour shifts with the light and the angle it is seen from: deeper and richer in a dim room, brighter near a window. Because every bowl comes from its own block, no two are identical, and the bands of colour in each sink follow their own course around the bowl.

Design

Amber bands under a polished face

The bowl is polished inside and out. Polishing gives the onyx a glossy surface and adds visual depth, so the bands and veining seem to sit below the face of the stone rather than on it. The walls are carved 2 to 3 cm thick, which gives the rim a solid edge and the bowl a real sense of weight. The shape is a plain round with smooth curves and no angles, so there are no tight corners where grime can collect. Onyx is a stone of strong natural variation, and moderate color variation between sinks is normal: one bowl may be mostly golden, another may carry darker amber bands or lighter cream veins.

Where to use it

Room to store below

A vessel bowl sits on the counter rather than cutting into the vanity, so the cabinet below keeps its full storage space for linens, toiletries and cleaning supplies. That matters most in powder rooms and smaller bathrooms. At 16 inches across, the sink is large enough to feel generous and compact enough for a tight vanity. The 6 inch height gives a comfortable basin depth. The warm amber tones work well with walnut or oak, brass or bronze fittings, and plaster or limewash walls, and they bring warmth to a bathroom finished in cool white tile. The 4 cm drain hole is compatible with standard plumbing fittings.

Installation

One drain hole and silicone

Vessel sinks are straightforward to install. The counter must be flat, level and strong enough to carry solid stone. A single hole is cut through the counter to line up with the 4 cm drain, the drain is fitted, and the bowl is secured with silicone. No undermount cutout is needed. With the rim 6 inches above the counter, the faucet must reach over the bowl: a tall vessel faucet on the deck or a wall-mounted spout. Choose the faucet before the counter is cut, so the faucet and drain holes sit in the right relationship.

Why we chose it

  • Single blockEach bowl is carved from one piece of Turkish onyx, so the banding is never repeated.
  • Arrives sealedThe sink is professionally sealed and ready for installation.
  • Made to orderEach sink is made to order, with custom sizes and finishes on request.

Made to order

Made to order

This sink is made to order on two schedules: the 3 to 4 week option ships sooner, while the 8 to 14 week option is the lower-priced choice. The bowl can also be carved in a custom size or finish. To start a custom order, contact us with the measurements of the counter.

Care

Onyx is a porous calcite stone, softer than many stones, so acids such as vinegar or lemon juice and harsh chemicals can etch or dull the polished surface. The sink arrives sealed, and how often it is resealed depends on how much it is used.
