Beige travertine, a farmhouse basin
This rectangular farmhouse sink is carved by hand from light beige travertine quarried in Turkey. It measures 20 inches long, 16 inches wide and 4 inches high, a low, generous basin for a bathroom vanity. The stone's warm, earthy color and natural texture vary from block to block, so every sink is entirely unique. It is solid travertine, honed and filled, and over decades of use it develops its own patina rather than wearing out.
Design
Honed and filled, with curved edges
The finish is honed and filled on both the interior and the exterior. Filling closes the small natural holes of the travertine, and honing then smooths the stone to a matte surface, so the sink has none of the rough texture of untreated stone and is pleasant to the touch. The edges are curved and the interior is smooth, which makes daily cleaning simple and leaves no tight corners for grime. The form is a clean rectangle in the farmhouse tradition, with a straight front face that shows off the stone. Color and texture variation is inherent to travertine, and moderate variation between pieces is normal: no two sinks are identical, and that variation gives the stone a depth that a uniform surface does not have.

Where to use it
A farmhouse sink for the bath
At 20 by 16 inches and 4 inches high, the basin gives a substantial presence on the vanity while staying practical for everyday washing. Light travertine's warm, earthy tones suit farmhouse bathrooms with wood and painted cabinets, Mediterranean rooms with plaster walls and terracotta, and traditional or contemporary bathrooms with a calm palette. It pairs well with aged brass, bronze or matte black faucets. The 4 cm drain hole accepts standard drain assemblies without custom modifications, so the plumbing below is the same as for any bathroom sink.

Installation
Size the cabinet to the sink
As a farmhouse sink, the basin is built into the vanity with its front face exposed, so the cabinet or the counter cutout must be sized to the 20 by 16 inch stone. Solid travertine is heavy, and the cabinet needs a strong, level support frame beneath the sink to carry it. The faucet is usually mounted on the counter behind the basin or on the wall above it, and its position should be set before the counter is cut. Because the sink is natural stone, measure the actual piece once it arrives before final cutting, and use a professional installer.

Care
Travertine is a porous calcite stone with a honed, filled surface. Acidic products such as vinegar or lemon-based cleaners can etch it, and periodic resealing maintains its stain resistance. How often it is resealed depends on use.
