A large round bowl in beige travertine
This vessel sink is carved by hand from beige travertine quarried in Turkey. At 18 inches in diameter and 7 inches high, it is a large round bowl, with room for a generous basin on a primary bath vanity. The warm beige tones and organic veining differ on every piece, so each sink is one of a kind. The finish is honed and filled, a smooth matte surface with the natural pits of the stone closed.
Design
Honed, filled and gently curved
Travertine forms with small natural pores. On this sink they are filled and the surface is honed, which closes the openings where dirt would otherwise collect and leaves a smooth, matte face. The matte surface hides water marks better than a glossy one and shows the depth of the stone. The rim has a curved profile with no sharp corners where soap scum and debris can build up, which keeps the bowl simple to clean. Moderate color variation between sinks is normal for this stone, and the veining pattern is never repeated.

Where to use it
A bowl sized for the primary bath
The round basin sits on top of the vanity as a sculptural piece, and its 18 inch diameter makes it a natural choice for a primary bathroom or a wide vanity. The warm beige works with wood, plaster and painted finishes, and it suits a spa-like bathroom as well as a traditional or contemporary one. At 7 inches high, the bowl is deep enough for comfortable daily use. The 4 cm drain opening takes standard vessel sink drains.

Installation
Set it on a level counter
The bowl sits on top of the counter. Solid stone is heavy, so the counter must be flat, level and strong. A drain hole is cut in the counter to line up with the 4 cm drain, and the bowl is set in silicone. Because the rim stands 7 inches above the counter, the faucet must reach over it: a tall deck-mounted vessel faucet or a wall-mounted spout. Choose the faucet before the counter is cut, and check that the counter is wide enough for an 18 inch bowl with space around it.

Care
Travertine is a highly porous calcite stone. Acids such as vinegar or lemon juice can etch it and leave dull spots, and sealing helps keep moisture and stains out. How often it is resealed depends on use, typically once or twice a year.
