New York marble, carved as a wall-mount basin
This rectangular wall-mount sink is carved by hand from a single block of New York marble quarried in Turkey. The stone has a white base with bold black veining, and the pattern, the color shifts and the organic texture of the marble change from one block to the next, so no two sinks are identical. It measures 16 inches wide, 24 inches long and 5 inches high. Turkish marble is valued for its durability and its veining, and here it is shaped into a clean rectangle that lets the black lines on white do the work.
Design
Black veins on white, polished
The sink is polished. Outside, the glossy surface catches and reflects light, which makes a small bathroom feel brighter and more open, and it sharpens the contrast between the white ground and the black veins. Inside, the basin is smooth, so water runs freely to the drain and soap residue rinses away. The rectangular profile is plain on purpose: straight lines and a flat front keep the attention on the stone. Because the veining is natural, the amount of black, the width of the veins and where they fall differ on every sink, and moderate variation between pieces is normal. Over time marble also develops a soft patina, which adds to its character rather than taking away from it.

Where to use it
Off the floor, on the wall
Hung on the wall, the sink frees the floor space a vanity would take, makes cleaning underneath easier and gives a powder room or a small bath room to breathe. At 24 inches long, it gives a comfortable washing area without crowding a narrow wall, and the 5 inch height keeps the basin shallow enough to be easy to reach for everyone in the house. The standard 1.5 inch drain connects to ordinary bathroom plumbing. The black and white stone suits a contemporary, minimalist bathroom as well as a traditional one, and it pairs with black, chrome or brass fittings. Left bare underneath, the basin reads as an architectural feature of the wall rather than a piece of furniture.

Plan the wall before it arrives
Solid marble is heavy, so a wall-mount sink needs solid backing. The wall should have blocking between the studs at the mounting height, which is simplest to add while the wall is open, and the sink hangs on brackets fixed into it. A wall-mounted faucet is the usual partner, and its position should be decided early so the supply lines can be run to match. The drain and supply lines should line up with the basin before the wall is finished. A professional installer is recommended, both for the weight of the stone and for a clean connection.

Care
New York marble is a calcite stone, and like all marble it is porous, so acidic substances can etch the polished surface and liquids can stain it if left to sit. Sealing slows absorption, and how often it is resealed depends on how much the bathroom is used, commonly once a year.
