Noce travertine, shaped as a farmhouse sink
This rectangular kitchen sink is carved by hand from Noce Brown travertine quarried in Turkey. It follows the farmhouse form, with a deep basin and an apron front, and measures 36 inches long, 18 inches wide and 7 inches high. Noce is the warm, walnut-brown member of the travertine family, with bands of tan, chocolate and cream running through it. Each sink is cut individually, so the banding and colour shifts differ from piece to piece, and over years of use the stone takes on a gentle patina from daily life in the kitchen.
Design
Honed and filled brown stone
The surface is honed and filled. Honing leaves the travertine smooth but matte, so the warm brown reads as stone rather than gloss, and a matte face shows fewer water spots. Filling closes the natural pits and voids of the travertine, which leaves fewer open pores for liquid and food to settle into while keeping the surface clean-lined and architectural. The apron front shows the stone on the face of the cabinet, and the exposed edges frame the counter with a band of warm colour. Moderate colour variation between sinks is normal for this stone, and the depth of the brown and the pattern of the lighter bands will differ in each piece.

A smooth matte finish, with the natural voids of the travertine filled.

Where to use it
A working sink for the kitchen
At 36 by 18 inches with a 7 inch height, the basin is roomy enough for large pots, roasting pans and sheet trays while still fitting a standard kitchen layout. The farmhouse shape suits farmhouse kitchens first, but the warm brown tone also works as a neutral anchor in modern, transitional and traditional rooms: against white or cream cabinetry, open wood shelving, unlacquered brass or matte black taps. It pairs well with a bridge faucet or a tall gooseneck. The drain hole is 6.5 cm, so choose a kitchen drain and strainer that match it.

Installation
Two ways to set it
The sink is listed for above-counter or undermount installation. Set above the counter, it sits on a flat, level surface over a cutout for the drain, with no extensive cabinet changes, and the stone edges stay visible. Undermounted, the counter is cut to the inside of the basin and the sink is supported from below, so the base cabinet must be sized to the sink and built to carry it. Either way, solid travertine is heavy, and the cabinet frame needs to be strong. Plan the faucet with the installation type: a deck faucet behind an undermount sink, or a tall faucet or wall-mounted tap when the sink sits on top. A professional installer is recommended.

Care
Travertine is a porous calcite stone, so acids such as vinegar, lemon or tomato can etch the honed surface, which matters in a kitchen. The filled surface has fewer open voids, and sealing slows absorption; how often it is resealed depends on how hard the sink is used.
