Travertine · Above-Counter sink
The Troia is a rustic rectangular vessel sink carved from light beige travertine quarried in Turkey. Each one is shaped by hand by stone carvers working in a long Turkish tradition, so every basin comes out of the workshop slightly different from the last. It measures 12 inches wide, 17 inches long and 6 inches high, with walls roughly 2 to 3 cm thick. Inside, the basin is honed smooth. Outside, the stone is left hand-chiseled, with the marks of the tools still visible on every face. The result looks quarried rather than manufactured.
Design
Two finishes meet on this sink. The interior is honed: smooth, matte and pleasant under running water, with the warm cream and ivory tones of the travertine showing clearly through the surface. The exterior is hand-chiseled, which means a carver has worked each side with a chisel, leaving a broken, textured face covered in small individual marks. That texture catches light from every angle. Light travertine has a soft, warm color with subtle variations in tone and the small natural pits and holes that the stone forms as it grows. Next to the rough outer walls, the smooth basin looks calmer and more refined, and the contrast between the two gives the piece real depth. Moderate color variation is normal for this stone, so the shade, the pattern and the character of the chiseling will differ from one sink to the next.

Where to use it
At 12 by 17 inches, the Troia has generous rectangular proportions without crowding a standard vanity. Set above the counter, it stands 6 inches proud of the top and creates a clear visual break between the basin and the surface below, a layered look that suits rustic, farmhouse and natural-material bathrooms. It works well in a powder room, where the textured stone gets a close look from every guest, and in a single-user primary bath where the sink is meant to be the feature. Wood vanities and plaster walls sit comfortably beside it. The sink can also be installed as an undermount, with the counter cut to the basin so that the honed interior is what shows from above. The 4 cm drain opening takes standard drain fittings for either installation.

Installation
Solid travertine is heavy, and the stone's own weight keeps it steady on the counter without wobbling or shifting. The counter still has to be flat, level and strong enough to carry it, and older or lightweight vanities may need reinforcing first. For an above-counter installation, a drain hole is cut in the counter to line up with the 4 cm drain, and the sink is bedded in silicone. Because the basin rises 6 inches above the top, the faucet has to reach over the rim, so plan on a tall deck-mounted vessel faucet or a wall-mounted spout. For an undermount installation, the counter cutout is sized to the basin. In both cases, decide on the faucet before the counter is cut so the supply lines can be placed to match, and use a professional installer who has handled natural stone before.
Why we chose it

Made to order
The Troia in 12 by 17 by 6 inches, honed inside and hand-chiseled outside, ships within 3 to 5 business days. This design can also be produced to order in a custom size or finish, for example a longer basin for a wider vanity or a different combination of surfaces. To start a custom order, contact us with the measurements of the vanity and the finish wanted.
Travertine is a porous calcite stone, so acids such as citrus, vinegar or harsh cleaning products can etch the honed basin, and unsealed stone can take up stains from cosmetics and toothpaste. Natural stone is sealed at installation, and how often it is resealed after that depends on use, typically once or twice a year.
