A light travertine apron front sink
This farmhouse sink is carved by hand in Turkey from a solid block of Troia Light travertine. Each sink is cut individually, so the warm beige colour and the small variations in the stone are never repeated, and every kitchen that has one has a piece of its own. It measures 18 inches wide, 30 inches long and 10 inches high, with an exposed apron front and walls 2 to 3 cm thick.
Design
Honed, filled and softly curved
The finish is honed and filled. Honing gives the stone a smooth, matte surface inside and out, and filling closes the natural pits of the travertine with a colour-matched fill that blends into the stone. The result keeps the character of travertine while leaving fewer open pores to collect water and food. The edges are curved and the basin has no sharp corners or crevices for debris to settle in. The beige tone has moderate variation from sink to sink, from even and pale to warmer with more visible banding.

A smooth matte surface, with the natural pits filled to match the stone.
Apron front
The front face of the sink is exposed below the counter edge.
Where to use it
Deep enough for real cooking
At 30 inches long and 10 inches high, the basin takes large pots, baking sheets and roasting pans, and a full sink of dishes still leaves room to work. The deep basin suits soaking casserole dishes as well as washing produce. The exposed apron front puts the stone on view and turns the sink into the centre of the kitchen. The sink has no overflow, so it can be filled to the level needed. The light beige works in modern, traditional and transitional kitchens, with black counters, wood cabinets or other stone. The drain hole is 6.5 cm.

Installation
Build the cabinet for it
The sink is listed for above-counter installation, with the apron front exposed. Solid travertine of this size is heavy, so the base cabinet is sized to the sink and reinforced to carry its full weight, and it must be level. Plan the counter around the sink, and position the drain and faucet before the counter is cut. With a 10 inch high basin, a tall kitchen faucet or a wall-mounted faucet gives the best reach. A professional installer is recommended.

Care
Travertine is a porous calcite stone. Filling closes the open pits, but acids can still etch the surface, so the sink is sealed and periodically resealed; how often depends on how much the kitchen is used, typically every 12 to 24 months.
