Light travertine rectangular shower base
This rectangular shower base is hand carved from first quality light beige travertine, quarried in Turkey. It measures 48 inches long, 32 inches wide and 3 inches high, with stone 2 to 3 cm thick, and the surface is honed and filled. Carved to show the stone's character rather than hide it, each base is one of a kind, and no two installations will look the same.
Design
Soft beige, honed and filled
Light travertine has warm beige tones, a soft texture and natural, organic variation across the surface. The base is honed and filled: the natural holes in the stone are filled and the face is honed to a matte finish that softens the look of the travertine and keeps it calm and even. The texture feels natural and comfortable underfoot, and the matte surface conceals daily wear well. Because the shower floor is a single carved piece, there are no grout lines where grime can settle, and the floor reads as one continuous surface. Moderate variation in tone between bases is normal for this stone.

Where to use it
Room to move in the shower
A 32 by 48 inch base gives noticeably more standing room than a compact square base while still fitting a standard alcove, and it can work in a bathroom with limited floor depending on how the shower is oriented. The extra length leaves room for a larger shower system and makes the shower easier to use for people with limited mobility. At 3 inches high, the base gives a modest step up and accommodates standard plumbing through its 8.5 cm center drain opening. The stone thickness of 2 to 3 cm makes the base feel solid underfoot, with no flex.

Installation
A level bed and membrane
The base should be set by an experienced professional on a level mortar bed over a proper shower membrane. The plumbing rough in places the drain under the 8.5 cm center opening before the base is set, and the walls and enclosure are finished around it. The base ships in a heavy duty wooden crate so the stone arrives in good condition.

Care
Travertine is a porous calcite stone, and this base has a honed and filled surface. Acids such as lemon or vinegar can etch it. Sealing keeps water and soap from penetrating and staining the stone, and how often it is resealed depends on how much the shower is used.
