Travertine · Wall-Mount sink
This rectangular bathroom sink is carved from solid beige travertine quarried in Turkey. It measures 32 inches long, 16 inches wide and 10 inches high, a long basin that gives two people room at the same vanity wall or one person plenty of space to wash. The front is fluted, the surface is honed, and the stone carries the warm sand and earth tones that travertine is known for. Each sink is shaped by hand from its own block, so the pattern of the stone, the small natural pits and the shifts in colour are never repeated from one piece to the next.

Design
The front face is cut with vertical flutes that run from the rim down to the base. The grooves catch light from the side and throw soft shadows, so the face of the sink changes through the day as the light in the room moves. The honed finish leaves the travertine smooth but matte, which softens the stone and shows its natural character rather than a glossy shine. A honed face is also less slippery when wet than a glossy one. Travertine forms with small natural pores created by gas bubbles in the stone, and those pores, along with veins of deeper beige and cream, give each sink its own texture. Moderate colour variation between pieces is normal for this stone, so the sink that arrives will differ in tone and pattern from any other one in the same size.
Vertical grooves carved into the stone itself, catching light and giving the front a ribbed, tactile edge.
A smooth matte surface in warm sand and earth tones, with the natural texture of the stone left visible.

Where to use it
Mounted on the wall, the sink stands on its own with no vanity base below it. That leaves an open band of floor under the basin, so the room reads larger, the floor tile runs uninterrupted to the wall and cleaning underneath is simple. This is especially useful in apartments, guest baths and powder rooms where every inch counts, though the 32 inch length also suits a primary bath where two people share the morning. The same sink can also sit on top of a vanity as an above-vanity basin when a cabinet is wanted for storage. At 10 inches high the basin is deep enough to wash comfortably without splashing over the rim. A 1 inch bracket space is built into the underside for wall mounting, and the 1.77 inch drain opening accepts standard drain fittings without modification.

Hung on the wall as a floating basin, or set on top of a vanity.

Installation
Solid travertine is heavy, and a basin this long carries real weight once it is full of water. For a wall-mount installation the wall needs solid blocking between the studs at the mounting height, which is simplest to add while the wall is still open. The sink then hangs on brackets that sit in the bracket space under the stone. If the sink will sit on a vanity instead, the top must be flat, level and strong enough to carry the stone, and the sink is set in silicone. In both cases, decide on the faucet early. A wall-mounted faucet needs its supply lines run inside the wall at the right height before the wall is closed, and the spout must reach over the front of the basin. A professional installer is recommended, both for the weight of the stone and so that the drain and supply lines meet the sink cleanly.
Why we chose it

Made to order
Every sink is made to order, and this one is offered on two production schedules in the same size and honed finish. The 3 to 4 week option ships sooner, while the 8 to 14 week option is the lower-priced choice. If 32 by 16 inches does not suit the wall, the sink can also be made in a custom size, adjust the fluted design, change the edge profile or produce it in a different finish. To start a custom order, contact us with the measurements of the wall and the layout of the plumbing.
Travertine is a porous calcite stone, full of small pores formed when the stone was created, so acidic liquids can etch the honed surface and moisture or toiletries can stain it if the stone is left unsealed. Sealing keeps water and stains out, and how often the sink is resealed depends on how much the bathroom is used.
