The right place to buy tile online is an online tile store that shows you enough to order without guessing: the exact size, finish and thickness, how many square feet are in a box, a sample of the actual product, how large orders are shipped, what happens if pieces arrive broken, and what the return terms are. Selection matters too, but these details decide whether the order that arrives matches the room you planned. This guide lists the ten points to check on any tile website and gives Stone Tile Depot's own answer to each, as of October 2026.
| What to check | Why it matters | Stone Tile Depot, October 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Range by material | Shows whether one store can supply the floor, the walls and the trim | 1,043 marble tiles, 1,636 porcelain tiles, 1,210 mosaics, 735 slabs, 691 pavers, 631 vanities |
| 2. Samples | Color and finish on a screen are not the same as in your light | Order Sample button on product pages, full-size piece; slab samples by request form |
| 3. Product page detail | Box coverage and thickness decide how much you order | Item code, sizes of the same stone, square feet per piece, box and crate, a quantity calculator |
| 4. Matching pieces | Trim and mosaics in the same stone finish a room | "Complete your project" row with trims, moldings and mosaics in the same material |
| 5. Shipping method | Tile is heavy; freight delivery works differently from a parcel | UPS for samples and small orders, LTL freight on pallets for large orders |
| 6. Delivery inspection | Damage claims depend on what is written at delivery | Note damage on the delivery receipt; hidden damage reported within 7 days with photos |
| 7. Breakage allowance | A stated threshold tells you when replacement applies | Up to 10% accepted; above that, replacement or partial refund or store credit |
| 8. Return terms | Check whether leftover boxes can be returned and who pays return freight | Full-order returns within 30 days of delivery; possible restocking fee |
| 9. People and places | A showroom and a phone line help with a large order | Locations in Fairfax VA, Carlstadt NJ and Pompano Beach FL; 1-800-622-8708 |
| 10. Independent reviews | A third-party site shows every rating and the store's replies | Rated 4.4 out of 5 on Trustpilot |
Yes, when the store publishes how heavy orders are shipped, what to do about damage, and its return terms, and when independent reviews back it up. Those are the facts to check before paying. Our shipping policy and return and refund policy are public: large orders travel as palletized LTL freight, damage is noted on the delivery receipt, hidden damage is reported within 7 days, breakage up to 10% is accepted, and full orders can be returned within 30 days of delivery under the policy terms. Stone Tile Depot is rated 4.4 out of 5 on Trustpilot. The remaining risk is ordering the wrong product or quantity, which a sample and the box calculator on the product page address.
A tile website can list thousands of products and still have little in the material you want. Count by material: how many marble tiles, how many porcelain tiles, how many mosaics in the stone you picked. Depth inside one material means more sizes and finishes of the same look. With enough formats, one stone can cover the floor, the walls and the shower niche.
As of October 2026 our catalog lists 1,043 marble tiles, 1,636 porcelain tiles, 1,210 mosaics, 735 slabs, 691 pavers and 631 bathroom vanities. Our tile collection is the starting point for all of it. A single marble can come in many formats: Royal Beige, for example, is listed in more than 70 products, from 12x24 and 24x24 field tiles to mosaics, moldings and pavers.

Screens show color differently from one device to the next. A sample answers what a photo cannot: the exact tone next to your cabinets, how a honed surface feels, how thick the piece is. Check two things: that the sample is of the exact item (the same size and finish), and how slab samples are handled, since a slab cannot be shipped as a piece.
On our site, tile, mosaic, molding, paver, luxury vinyl and engineered hardwood pages have an Order Sample button, and the line under it reads "Full-size sample · Shipped as a single piece." Slab pages use a "Request a Sample or Quote" form instead. Products with a sample are grouped in our tile samples collection, and our guide to tile samples explains how to compare them as a board.
The product page is the spec sheet. Before you order, it should give you the nominal size and thickness, the finish, the square feet in one piece and in one box, and a stable item code you can quote on the phone. A quantity tool that rounds up to full boxes saves a call.
Our tile pages show an item code under the title, every size and shape of the same stone as buttons, a "How much do you need?" calculator with an "Add 15% for cuts & waste (recommended)" box, and a packaging line with square feet per piece, per box and per crate. The Specifications section lists the measured size. For the math behind box counts, see how much tile do I need.

Trim and mosaics are separate products from the field tile. Pencil liners, bullnose, thresholds and a mosaic for the shower floor have to match in color and finish, and they are easier to match when they come from the same stone and the same store. Look for a store that groups those pieces with the field tile.
Each of our tile pages has a "Complete your project" row with trim and edging, mosaics and accents, and wall tiles in the same material. A marble mosaic such as Silver Sky polished 5/8x1 1/4 is listed beside the field tiles of the same stone.

Tile and stone are heavy, so large orders do not travel like a parcel. An online tile store should say which orders go by parcel and which go by freight, and what freight delivery asks of you. If the store does not explain it, ask before you order.
LTL (less than truckload) freight means your pallets share a truck with other shipments. Curbside delivery means the driver unloads the pallets from the truck at the curb and does not carry them into the house, garage or job site. Our shipping policy asks for an accurate phone number at checkout because the freight carrier contacts you to schedule a delivery appointment. Transit times come from the carrier and are estimates. The full ordering steps are in how to buy tile online.
| UPS small parcel | LTL freight | |
|---|---|---|
| What ships this way | Samples, trims, accessories, smaller orders | Large tile and stone orders on secured pallets |
| Tracking | Tracking number when it ships | Tracking information when it ships |
| Delivery | To the address, like any parcel | Carrier calls to book an appointment; curbside delivery |
| Who unloads | The parcel driver | The driver unloads pallets from the truck to the curb |
| Size rule | Pieces up to 24 inches long | Any piece longer than 24 inches, at any weight |
The receipt you sign at delivery is the record a damage claim is built on. A good shipping policy tells you what to check before signing. Ours asks you to look at the packaging, count the pallets or boxes, write any damage or shortage on the carrier's delivery receipt and photograph it. Damage found after the pallets are opened is reported within 7 days of delivery, with photos of the material and the packaging, to sales@stonetiledepot.com.
A freight shipment of stone or tile can arrive with chipped or cracked pieces, so a return policy should state a breakage threshold. Ours accepts up to 10% breakage; the policy notes that some pieces may be usable for cuts. If damage is above 10% of the order, you may qualify for replacement material, or a partial refund or store credit for the damaged products.
Read the return policy for three things: whether leftover boxes can come back, who pays return freight, and whether there is a restocking fee. Our policy accepts full-order returns only, requested within 30 days of delivery. Material must be unused, uninstalled and in its original packaging. The customer pays return shipping, original shipping is not refunded, and approved returns may be subject to a minimum 25% restocking fee. Custom and made-to-order items, container orders and clearance items cannot be returned, and installed material counts as accepted. This is the reason a sample and an accurate box count come first.
For a large order or a slab, it helps to see the material or talk to someone who can look up a batch. Our locations are at 2737 Dorr Ave in Fairfax, Virginia; 610 Washington Ave in Carlstadt, New Jersey; and 2010 W Atlantic Blvd in Pompano Beach, Florida, and slab batches are also held in Anaheim, California. The Fairfax page describes a 3,000 square foot showroom with design services and a sale room for closeouts. The phone line is 1-800-622-8708.
Contractors, designers and builders can apply for our free trade account, Pros Club, which applies trade pricing at checkout when the member is logged in. See the trade program guide.

A third-party review site lets you read low ratings as well as high ones, see how the store answered them, and see how recent the reviews are. Stone Tile Depot is rated 4.4 out of 5 on Trustpilot, where the full list of reviews is public.
Each product type has its own checks. These guides apply the checklist to one category at a time:

One for each product you are still deciding on, in the exact size and finish, for each surface: the floor, the walls and the shower floor can each be a different product. Ordering two finishes of the same stone side by side shows the difference between honed and polished directly. Samples ship by parcel, so they arrive separately from any freight order.
Under our shipping policy, if a scheduled freight delivery is missed, or refused for a reason other than shipping damage, the carrier may charge redelivery fees, storage fees or return freight, and those charges are the customer's. An incorrect address can also add charges if the shipment has to be rerouted, so check both before paying.
Slab pages list batches, and each batch has its own slab size, square feet per slab, number of slabs and warehouse. You pick the batch on the page and send the "Request a Sample or Quote" form for it. The Fairfax page adds that slabs there are held for five business days and are sold to fabricators, who buy the whole slab and make the finished piece.
Yes. The Fairfax, Virginia page says no appointment is needed, with an appointment encouraged for a large project that needs design services, and asks slab shoppers to bring a cabinet sample and finish swatches. For Carlstadt and Pompano Beach, call 1-800-622-8708 first to ask whether the product you want can be seen there.
